Lets stop pretending the hydration breaks are anything other than an add break for companies to insert more garbage into a sporting event. The actual fluids and cool down part, where required, could be handled much more efficiently and have less impact on how the game is played.

I agree the small ones like Cromer and Wells still do, the bigger ones, Yarmouth, for example, less so 🤷‍♂️

I see Farage often referred to as a Temu Trump. Apparently in Spanish they use the expression Ali Express with the same meaning.

And their spokesperson was given such an easy ride by the interviewer, in sharp contrast to the attacking way they interviewed Polanski. The media were creaming in their jeans at the prospect of Reform winning, and they seem subdued and disappointed this morning that they didn't get their way.

So many groundbreaking linguists, of all persuasions, spent time at Essex at various points in their career: Michael Halliday, Andrew Radford, Peter Trudgill, Viv Cook, Keith Brown, Henry Widdowson, Harald Clahsen, Bob Borsley, Andrew Spencer, Louisa Sadler, Roger Hawkins.... So sad...

New paper out w @davidbritain.bsky.social & T. Blaxter: Using data from 50K speakers, we show that many once-distinctive English regional terms have sharply declined. Even the northern backend for ‘autumn’ now survives only at low rates, mostly among older, less mobile speakers. tinyurl.com/39uy4x5e
