In two years we've gone from a standard where the President's budget proposal was a set of suggestions Congress would ignore to where Congressional appropriations are now a set of suggestions the President ignores.

And yet those that sought to overturn that election without plausible proof continue to be treated as respected participants in the democratic enterprise. I am on my way to a conference at Harvard where one of the leaders of that effort is very nearly a co-host, with multiple places on the agenda.

Compelling 🧵. Russia was and remains a deeply racist imperial regime. Only monumental acts of dishonesty or self- delusion can allow one to say otherwise. What Russia is doing to Ukrainians (and Georgians and Belarusians and Tatars and Moldovans and ...) is only the latest in a long, ugly sequence.

Yes! As much fun as it may be to ridicule his blundering into an unnecessary war and then mismanaging it, millions of people could die if his pride gets too deeply involved. And if he uses nuclear weapons, that will make it much easier for others to do so. This is a very dangerous situation.

Everything being said about prohibitions on personal glorification and political campaigns is correct, but also note that 31 USC 1301 prohibits spending any appropriated funds for any purpose not specified in the appropriation. Doing so therefore violates the Anti-Deficiency Act and is a crime.

Congress rejected some of Trump’s proposed budget cuts. OMB is making them anyway.
President Trump and the Office of Management and Budget are accused of violating the separation of powers by attempting to unilaterally withhold funds that Congress specifically appropriated.

But also, now you know the exact line he will use to justify Ru’s third invasion if Ukraine were to agree to give up all of Donbas in this round of useless "peace talks".

Important: the USPS rule that SCOTUS blocked tonight was Trump’s big plan to control and restrict mail voting. But a separate policy remains in place: USPS is no longer postmarking mail as soon it gets it, which is hugely important for deadlines. So people must mail back with plenty of time.

In an Intense Election Year, New Post Office Rules Could Trip Up Voter Registration - Bolts
A change in how mail is postmarked could lead some voters to miss key deadlines, including voter registration. Advocates worry the people most affected will be those already facing voting barriers.

This is a more overt variant of a longstanding GOP gambit. They win elections promising average voters tax cuts but then give almost all of the money to their richest backers. Voters don't realize thelat almost all the money went elsewhere and remain hungry for "tax cuts" at the next election.
