The cast of unknowns do a good job in the film as well. Even the actor portraying the very unlikable racist sheriff character does a good job of portraying a bigoted southwestern small town sheriff that we all have seen many times on the news over the past two decades.

I also have to give praise that this film isn’t afraid to take a side in it’s social commentary- specifically in regards to undocumented immigrants and how they are often viewed as guilty, even if proven innocent.

Amusing note is that my brother stopped by while i was about halfway through the film, and even he got spooked out and asked if what I was watching was a real news program.

I have to give the filmmakers praise for making me feel very uneasy. Even if I knew from the start that this was a work of fiction, there’s something in the back of one’s mind that starts to feel that something this horrifying and unreal could or did occur.

There is no extreme graphic violence in the film, only some quick glimpses of the aftermath, similar to what one would see in a documentary or on a news magazine show. What may put off impatient viewers is that film is largely done with talking heads, after all it is a mockumentary.

I heard about it when I was looking up the Wikipedia article on English experimental music project Zoviet France. On their Wiki page the final sentence mentioned that the music project did the score to the film so I did a search for it and found it streaming for free on Tubi.

Here’s a bit of a film recommendation for the spooky season. Savageland is a low-budget indie mockumentary horror film from 2015. I actually only saw this film last year, and not due to any recommendations.
