David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 15hOr in other words if there is an AI correction it could get interesting for the US in the next year or so. Probably a limited impact à la 2000 shakeout, but still 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 15hIndeedy! Fully agree on that one. I’m in tech and have no illusions about the “tech will save us all” narrative - complete borrocks. Politicians are scared of the economics, I guess. There are also risks in the economics too, though: taking AI out of US GDP would be a big delta (2-8 percent - eek!) 100
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 16hPs I chose to respond to you because I saw you first - same response to all. It’s funny thing, this AI. And tech has a habit of getting a pass until quite late (see the “platforms aren’t publishers” excuses - in my view they very much are). I agree with you all regarding the “should” or “prefer”. 110
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 16hThe problem is that said unpredictability is an inherent component of the value that AI allegedly embodies, and govts/regulatory authorities have been chary of regulating it for fear of losing ground in the competitive race. So we are in a grey zone. Dangerous, IMV. How dangerous, I have no idea. 100
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 17hIt’s complicated, because an apparently simple instruction (book me into the gym next Thursday) can turn into something bad (AI hacks gym booking system, boots someone off, replaces them with its subscriber). This has happened. Worth listening to Geoffrey Hinton - he invented much of this gen of AI. 300
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 11/10/2026The one facing the camera had an extremely cute face. 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Squirrel. Doing a cute little left arm thing (it seemed OK). 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Allegedly. Even if the association is … difficult to interpret in other ways 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Just looked it up. Blimey. On the surface it is a compelling approach, too. 111
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Could be more - upper end of the range pf damage estimates using doppelgänger method is 6 percent - over 150bn pa. That’s a lot of mooley 281
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 10/10/2026And he won (a little) more vote share than Andrew Feinstein plus ours last time around. Not much, but a bit. We do have some important lessons to learn around all this though, IMV. I think @sianberry.bsky.social has it spot on 010
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 10/10/2026lol - hopefully not! I also find the breathlessness a bit mystifying, while also feeling there are several lessons over the last few months which I would hope we can learn - and sooner rather than later. 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 09/10/2026That not a bad idea. Are there sidings/terminus locales for platforms off the main line, or is there at least capacity for them? That will be the issue, won’t it. As well as needing space for all the usual Brexit madness stuff. Deary me 100

David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 08/10/2026When is a simulation not a simulation? Nobody has a bloody clue because any answer is wrong pretty much unprovable. 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Masses of Greens and Labour everywhere. Contrary to some perspectives, many of us get on with each other quite well. A Lab London Assmebly member just popped over to say hi, even. 000

David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I agree, George. My guess is that the leadership realises that and is trying to find a way to fix this 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I a little less online these days. I think AI saturation might be part of it 010
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Great piece, too. And extremely sad. I am very fond of the French and France 050
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I’m Green and I think you are correct. The motion is desperately misguided, partly because nobody has taken the care to deconstruct the topic as carefully as you have done. Impressive, BTW 100
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Another. Bit of an unusual subject, but ...? Criticism welcome. 020
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Won't happen. A tiny percentage of the membership voted for this, including several jewish people (including one Holocaust survivor). We will fix it. 000
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I grant you that might be unlikely, but then the motion is itself somewhat unlikely to be actioned meaningfully, lets be clear. A terrible waste both of time and an awful lot of hard work over the years. All very sad, really. 100
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The state could be called Israel, nothing to exclude that. I don’t agree with the motion though. It won’t help anyone and won’t help our argument in the end, either 140
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 05/10/2026That’s one my my major concerns with the motion as passed. It’s forcing a definition onto others of a widely used word which has many meanings in different contexts. It’s also likely to increase the chances of ending up at Godwin’s law whenever these difficult topics are discussed. 070
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Yep, tragic. A setback, no question. Good statement BTW 040
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I don’t accept that view. There may be attempts to push us in that direction, but that isn’t the outcome so far. I don’t support that sort of politics BTW, because it doesn’t get us to a better place. 010
David Stansell @daves1412.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I hear a lot of Tories who say they like Badenoch but that isn’t reflected in the numbers, which is interesting 000
