and so i was only able to get two pictures: the first one, looking south, and this one looking north. every second of my time was spent controlling an over stimulated dog who wants to greet everyone including kids, who she could easily knock over.

here's a view of the summit house, it was exactly as shown except the pic is swiped from wikipedia. see that steep ramp to the left of the house? now imagine ellie, 50 pounds of muscle & 10 pounds of fat, harnessed & pulling me up that grade as hard as possible, because she wants to go UP. NOW.

it was a beautiful day to go to the Summit House in & gaze over the valley i call home left, the view today looking north from the summit. right, a painting by Thomas Cole depicting the same view but with a thunderstorm coming through. more context is in the alt text

looking south from the summit house at the top of mount holyoke, a trap rock mountain which is part of the holyoke range. that round island thing in the river is where The Oxbow is found. an oxbow is a bend in a river which resembles the sharp bend of an ox yoke, the bent part is called an Oxbow. oxbows can separate from their parent river through geologic forces such as erosion, silt deposit, severe flooding, etc.

any such feature anywhere is an oxbow. but this one is local to is so it's THE oxbow. ha.
