davecormier.com/edblog/2026/... I do not think that the right question about what we need to do for our education system has the acronym AI in it. A human centered model for discussing AI in assessment.
It's a VENN diagram. The top left circle of the diagram is yellow an the question "did they do it?" is in that circle. The top right circle is blue and has the question "Have they learned?" in it. The joint box between the top left circle and the top right circle has "quality assurance" in it. The bottom circle of the venn diagram is green and has the question "are we helping" in it. The connecting space between the top right circle and the bottom right circle says "good assessment". The overlap between the top left circle and the bottom circle says "student enagement" The middle, where all three circles overlap says Human centered assessment. It has a title on the bottom left "a human centered model for discussion AI in Assessment" and says Dave cormier CC by 2026

I've been saying queen sacrifice today, butchering @edufuturist.bsky.social 's conception of cutting high value academic departments. I was suggesting that giving up the creation of content for our courses to AI is the same kind of sacrifice. We lose our voice and our sense of story.

What is the word for things that are both embarrassing and exciting at the same time? As I head off for a short vacation, I, for the first time, am leaving behind a totally empty inbox.
This is an image that has the microsoft icon for inbox and the text "all done for the day. Enjoy your empty inbox" on it over a white background.

I heard rumour that this book review might be coming out. I can't say that there has been anything else about writing this book that had me more concerned than how this might go. I really, really hope he liked it. You can read it with me :) www.irrodl.org/index.php/ir...

Just watched "drive back home" www.imdb.com/title/tt2677... It's a story, from 1970, about a good old boy from Northern New Brunswick who has to go to Toronto to get his gay brother from jail. It's amazing.

I was today years old when I found out that Warren Zevon's song "Excitable Boy" is the story of the narrator from The Everly Brother's "Wake Up Little Susie." I mean. That's what the Wikipedia article seems to be saying. And Zevon toured with the Everly Brothers. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_...

Walking in to the office this morning listening to history lectures. I'm now wondering if blindly accepting 15th century spellings for words affects the way English language speakers react to the expression "that's just the way it is". see: Knight, Gnat, enough, etc...

I'm starting to think about how I can talk about Open Learning/Education at my new job. I definitely think that one half of that is "widening participation". Things like PLAR, ZTCs lowered barriers for entry. the other half, open practices? Some of those practices work against widening participation

I wonder how many young people, right now, have been asked to 'go explore' GenAI (in academic, in corporations etc...) who don't actually understand the field/business context that they are being asked to do the research in.

I have said the words ‘genai is just a symptom of a wider change that we have mostly not adapted to’ about a hundred times and never written it down. It probably needs a few disclaimers now that I see it in print. Gonna try and get to that today.

It's a chart made up of five boxes, starting with a single box that says Learner. Arrows go in two directions. To the left the arrow goes to 'doesn't give a shit*' and then a further arrow from that one that says "nothing else" to the right from learner the arrow goes to "gives a shit" with a further arrow that goes to "everything else" The title of the chart is "dave's secret theory of good learnin'".

The chart implies that learning is all about how much a student cares about learning.

The high end skills that are needed through this Time of GenAI are the SAME ones we needed 3 years ago, plus a few technical skills. These skills replace other skills (search/web research) that we weren't thinking of as 'workforce' skills before.

I just read another 'GenAI litearcies' post and I'm still not convinced. NotebookLM (etc) are good ways of automatically crunching texts, but I don't need a 'literacy' to do that - i just need fingers. The literacy comes from choosing texts and evaluating the results... which i had to do before.
