The documentary is amazing. Make sure you watch it with a half decent sound bar or speakers because you will want some bass with that...

I love football chat as much as the next amateur pundit. It will come down to a moment against France or Spain or both. To have England consistently in that conversation having lived through the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s will do for me.

Polanski is getting a kicking which is to be expected. He's made mistakes, he'll never be PM, I doubt he'll be an MP. There is no doubt though that his Make Hope Normal social media onslaught shifted things, especially in the Labour party. If you like what Burnham is doing it's worth remembering.

Morning. It's a Cymande Friday. Don't forget to watch BBC4 tonight for a Glastonbury performance and one of the greatest music documentaries you'll see. This is Fug from 1973. It's no wonder their music was sampled so many times. Enjoy... youtu.be/iTuQ7c1Uttg?...

Onto Promised Heights the second album from Cymande from 1974. Who knew a black South London band was capable of this kind of funk. What a song it is. Irresistible funky ear worm incoming. Brothers On The Slide youtu.be/m4WY2VAQNjk?...

Cymande, my latest obsession couldn't catch a break in 1972. No one wanted to know their "Jungle Music". This song takes on extra meaning on a day like today. It makes me wonder if a group of Syrian or Iranian lads could get their music heard today. Mighty Heavy Load youtu.be/TCcQRgHi0jQ?...

I can't vouch for all of these but it goes some way to explain why an early 70s South London band you've probably never heard of are so revered in certain circles. A playlist of songs that sample Cymande open.spotify.com/playlist/1Ob...

I'm still regretting not including Jungle Book. I had The Wombles in mine but Jungle Book is probably more entrenched in my memory as any album I've ever listened to. COMPANY. HALT!

#ClocktoberMusic #MusicChallenge Day 8: "No Time" - The Monkees (LP cut, Headquarters, 1967) Originally a jam session, they credited engineer Hank Cicalo for helping them become a recording band. With the royalties, he bought a house. Nice. youtu.be/Kij8yrPwZRU?...

Unraveling traditional nursery rhymes is where madness lies. What were people smoking to come up with these rhymes for children? Long days to fill I guess.

Here's a Rod Temperton playlist. He was a famously private man but left five houses in his will. Honey, the man wrote Thriller. That alone probably bought the houses, never mind Boogie Nights, Rock With You, Yah Mo Be There, Baby Come To Me and Give Me The Night open.spotify.com/playlist/2eL...

Released less than a year after he died. From a collection of recordings made in the years just before his death. The best place to find this stuff is on the Satellite Life boxset. This haunting beauty is one of my favourites. It's spine tingling. youtu.be/FAnnzI1iH88?...

My 9 stops when I was 24. I'd probably struggle to come up with another later 9 that "made me". Maybe something by The Coral or solo Weller. Taylor Swift may squeeze in. Older discoveries. Hendrix, MW&F. Either way it's just a bit of fun nonsense in which I chose The Wombles over The Bunnymen.

Local charities can arrange for people to attend who need support. Such is Marseille's sense of community those who can afford full price do so happily knowing they have helped someone. The proprietor is hoping to expand the idea across France. Remarkable.

I caught the last 10 minutes Eva Longoria - Searching For France last night. A good / travel show. She was at a community restaurant in Marseille. Guests can pay 30 Euros or 1 Euro for the same meal depending on their "situation". No one knows what anyone else pays. There is no shame or shaming.
