Got the Dorohedoro art book and fortunately they included the most important illustration Q Hayashida made for the series
Illustration from Dorohedoro of the character Noi dressed as a sexy nurse holding a syringe while the characters (from left to right) Shin, Ebisu, Shin, Shou, and Chota are below her in the background, looking injured.

Reading more Nana and Sachiko’s cowboy hat in this scene is fucking huge on her
Two panels from chapter 6 of Nana of the characters Shoji and Sachiko talking. Shoji is wearing a beanie while Sachiko has a huge cowboy hat that covers most of her head and face.

I’m reading the first run of The Thing solo comic and there’s a silly and fun issue that I really enjoyed but at the end they do this which makes it even better
A page from The Thing issue 7 where The Thing is complaining about the issue itself, saying:
“WHAT TH?! Those blankety-blank idjits! I know this would happen sooner or later! I told Reed! I said, ‘If we’re gonna let the clowns at Marvel do comics books about us we’re gonna hafta watch ‘em every step of the way.’ But did he listen? Ohhhh no ‘Don’t worry, Ben,’ he says. ‘I trust Lee and Kirby implicitly!’ But Lee and Kirby ain’t doin’ our book no more — and now this!”

I know someone clarified already but here’s an excerpt of the article that shows what he said
The highlighted text says “Ultimately, what people remember are the IPs. Games become obsolete when new versions come out. But that’s incredibly sad. We started video production partly because of that sadness -seeing our creations become playable only on Virtual Console”

In Xenosaga 1, you can get an email from Kazuya Mishima telling you about how he’s kicking ass in the King of Iron Fist tournament. This game is amazing

The First Slam Dunk This is a masterful adaptation of the manga’s final match, bringing it to life with a great blend of 2d and 3d animation. This film also gives Ryota Miyagi (a character who gets little focus in the manga) so much pathos and history, and makes this last match matter even more

Slam Dunk I see why this is the king of sports manga. The art is very good and shows everything what’s happening in each match well, and Inoue knows how to keep each moment tense, but what really makes this series shine is its characters. You get attached and root for them like they’re your team

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Fittingly, this game was my own white whale: A game deeply beloved and revered that I was first intrigued by but then highly disappointed with that I could never get far in but stayed in my thoughts and hard drive for years regardless

Rohan at the Louvre This is actually the first solo Rohan story I’ve read and I really liked it! It was fun to see Araki do a short story with a bigger focus on mystery and horror while also humanizing Rohan in a way that Part 4 never tries to, and it was great to see him do it all in color
The front and back cover to Rohan at the Louvre combined together to form an image of Rohan doing a dramatic pose in front of the Louvre while the background is Rohan’s face drawn in pink with abstract shapes in blue and pink surrounding him.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin That was a pretty good game! Idk if I liked it as much as Dawn of Sorrow but it was really fun and did a good job at keeping the non linear style while also having separate areas for parts of the game, but I do wish they got more out of you controlling two characters
The cover to Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, which features the two playable characters, Charlotte (holding a book as she attacks uses magic) and Jonathan (holding the vampire killer whip) with a massive full moon and part of Dracula’s castle, Castlevania, behind them

Torna- The Golden Country I love prequels so much, especially due to the dramatic irony and tragedy of knowing how it’s going to end, and this game plays with that so well. It revels in twisting the knife in you, making you care so much for all the people you meet, all while knowing their fates

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Its flaws are very visible and its style and tone is different from 1’s but this is an incredible experience. The combat is very fun and engaging, and open world design is well thought out. I loved getting to new areas and exploring every corner I could find

Devil May Cry 5 Dante and Nero’s move sets have been made even better, V is a lot of fun to play as, the style is still great, and they had more of a focus on the story and deepening these characters, and all retaining the goofy sense of fun the series has. Easily the best game in the series

Sinners I know everyone is talking about this movie right now but I think it lives up to the acclaim it’s getting. I had a great time watching it, it was a very good being a period piece about what it meant to be black in the Jim Crow South and balanced that with becoming a fun horror movie so well

Paradise Kiss It manages a great balance between being a romantic drama about two people with different needs and a coming of age story about a young woman learning what she wants out of life and gaining the confidence to pursue it. The whole cast is very compelling and the art is incredible

Death Stranding After being disappointed by MGS 5, I was excited to see Kojima and his team make something new with a focus on story again, and having finally beaten it, it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the gameplay and the depth and variety they to put into it, it’s a great walking sim

Wolf Children This movie deftly juggles the experience of both childhood and parenthood, showing the perspective of each member of this family so well. It resonated strongly to see experiences that mirror my own and my mother’s while growing up. I’m glad I saw this now, when I can look back on it

Devil May Cry 4 It’s a weaker game than 3 in terms of its structure since they have you go through all the levels in reverse (tho I do appreciate how they change up your experience in each) and you play as Dante for so little of it, but I ended up liking it more, mostly because of Nero’s moveset

Devil May Cry 3 This was a great follow up! Adds on the overall style of the series (especially in the cutscenes), develops the combat into the shining example of the subgenre, and tells a fun story that while nothing special, is affecting and treats these characters and their struggles seriously

Devil May Cry It was surreal at first that this game doesn’t have the same focus and implementation of combos that the later games and successors would, but its structure, pacing, level and enemy design, variety, and effective story moments make it hold up as a cool, unique game

Hitman Absolution Did not have fun with this game but it was really interesting to see it try to mesh a linear stealth game with the classic Hitman style and not have it work at all, but I can definitely see the bones of what became the modern games in this one, so it was worth the playthrough

Char’s Counter Attack What a beautiful and haunting movie. It concludes the journey that 0079 started in a way that felt satisfying to watch while also raising questions about how far we need to go in order to solve systemic issues and what role does hope play in the conflicts that arise from that

Bleach I get why people fell off after the first arc but I really enjoyed it! The worldbuilding was more fleshed out and considered than I was expecting, the fights were fun and all clear and easy to follow, and I ended up liking the characters a lot. I hope he follows up that hell chapter someday

Hitman Blood Money My first time playing a Hitman made before the new trilogy and I had a lot of fun with it! The controls and physics are a little janky but the levels are still really well designed and the level of interaction you have with the game world is impressive for a game its age

Darksiders Had a lot of fun with this! I liked the art style, the gameplay and structure mix of DMC with Zelda and the comic book style story and presentation. I wish the combat was a bit more complex and combo focused and that the last dungeon was smaller but this was good! Can’t wait to play 2

Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ You can feel it reach its limits sometimes, especially due to the switch in tone but I really enjoyed it and what it had to say about Gundam’s themes! It’s definitely a show that needs to be watched by all Gundam fans and is better than Zeta imo

Dead Space 2 Had fun with it but I wish it had advanced the gameplay of the first game further. There isn’t enough enemy variety and none of them really test your severing skills, along with rotating your main weapon not being needed unlike the first game. There’s so more they could have done

Myst First time playing this and not only do I see why it’s a classic and so influential, but it still holds up. Its graphics and the way it presents them are still so evocative and convey so much about each world, and I really enjoy how contextual and accessible most of the puzzles are. Really rad

Last Quarter While being shorter than most of Ai Yazawa’s works, more story driven, and supernatural in nature, it still has her incredible art and style, and the emotional storytelling that made the best parts of Neighborhood Story. Worth reading for an emotional story about the past and living on

Ai Yazawa is a gamer, you love to see it
A character from the manga Last Quarter is pointing to a screen with the words Parasite Eve on it, saying “As in Mitocondrial Eve? I’m talking about reality, not video games!” along with a side comment from her saying “What do you mean she can’t go into the garden?”

Neighborhood Story This is the first Ai Yazawa series I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! Very funny but with a lot of heart. Even while you see her her skills grow alongside Mikako, you still connect with the characters and feel their emotions so strongly. Very excited to read her other works

Ninja Gaiden Black Been wanting to play through this game in full for years and it did not disappoint. The combat isn’t as complex as DMC but that means you focus more on dodging and recognizing attacks to counter well, and that along with the level design makes its own unique and fun experience

No More Heroes 3 A really interesting and fitting game to end my playthrough of Suda’s original games made at Grasshopper. Feels like a mix of NMH 1’s wild energy and the more introspective character work of TSA. Not as good as TSA but still a fun and chaotic sendoff to this series

Bram Stoker’s Dracula It is so successful at using a wild and ferocious style to convey Dracula’s power and terror, and having the dreamlike feel intersect with the tender and heartfelt scenes creates a dichotomy between the love Dracula had and the way its loss destroyed him. Wonderful film.
