This is an excellent resource for anyone who supervises trans+ folks doing fieldwork but, also, many of these recommendations are applicable well beyond fieldwork, for anyone leading, supervising, mentoring, employing, or otherwise collaborating with trans+ colleagues I highly recommend it:

How will warming and sea-ice loss affect interactions between krill and salps? And what will this mean for the global carbon cycle? We have a vacancy for a PhD position to develop population models of krill and salps and couple them to an ocean-sea ice-biogeochemical model of the Antarctic.

Moreover, our insistence on an “ultimate defining criterion of biological sex” has nothing to do with politics, despite the clear political slant of our citations. We’re not being political, YOU’RE being political! (3/3)

Chromosomes are biological. Hormones are biological. Anatomy is biological. Behaviour is biological. Reifying one of the many aspects of sex as the only true definition of ‘biological sex’ is a political statement that I refuse to endorse.

For years I've tracked billionaire excess. Each year I show students a chart that blows their minds. This year I had to redraw it for a trillionaire: Elon Musk, $1.32T. Depressing that we're here. Silver lining: couldn't have happened to a less deserving person, proof that wealth ≠ merit.

Women, non-native English speakers & those form low-income countries are disadvantaged in science but by how much? We found that women with non-English first languages from low-income countries publish up to 70% fewer in English than their counterparts. 1/5 doi.org/10.1371/jour... #languagebarriers
Scientific productivity gap based on English-language peer-reviewed papers. Shown are the maximum % differences in the number of peer-reviewed papers published by female native English speakers from a high-income country (-45%), female non-native English speakers from a high-income country (-60%), and female non-native English speakers from a lower-middle income country (-70%), compared to male native English speakers from a high-income country (red flag).

a bit unhappy that the talks about being trans & Palestinian in academia were concurrent with other science talks #ESEB2025. How will these inspiring people’s stories percolate / get everyone to reflect if the schedule selects for attendance only by those who are already sympathetic?
