Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Thanks Luke! I seem to remember you and I talking about this once. Do you have an opinion on it? 100
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I wonder if American contract law involves more math than Canadian. I use almost no math in contract remedies 100
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026That was my experience as well, but I also understand why people might find it intimidating or needlessly complex 100
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026I think it can also help you cover more ground, because you've kind of thrown them in the deep end. But I do worry it'll be too much. And clarity is surely a huge strength of the traditional approach. 110
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Yes it's definitely simpler and that's an advantage. But I do think there is also some benefits to teaching remedies first. I remember, in my admittedly limited experience, finding it helped me make sense of all my private law classes together and of the law in general frankly./ 110
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Yeah I agree. And I think the class is probably the hardest of first year. Not coincidentally, I think it also often acts as a student's first introduction to remedies. 110
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026You mean you teach it as its own class? I remember it being very hard when I took it but then it all coming together in a helpful way. And I believe we only did the basics - expectation vs reliance etc.. specific performance, exemplary dmgs all later 120
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Oh I see. I teach almost no math in remedies anyways but I see what you mean. 120
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Why does starting with Offer/Acceptance build critical thinking skills? Just curious what you mean by that 220
Dan Rohde @danrohde.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Do you start with offer and acceptance? What I found last year was that it was tolerably clear, but you end up moving very very slowly. Seems like the first 5 classes you cover very little. 210
