Good advice. I might temper it slightly by: it’s ok to listen to advice leaks from genuine close mentors. But they have to be real real genuine. Like, I can think of 2 or 3 people from whom I’d listen to advice leaks if I were magically transported back to the entry level market (nightmarish idea)

One way you can tell I'm offering kind of a narrow claim about juristocrats as opposed to judging qua judging is the setup to this piece. It's about institutions with an originating mythology that lose that story and have to fall back on function.

This is a lot of what I was getting at when I wrote about “authority” in a post-Trump America. I think I basically agree with the author that the tools and strategies of the past can’t really move the ball. They can just slow the bleeding.

Very good book. Just has a weird thing where after convincing you the folks in black robes are a bunch of pathological goof balls, the vertical-horizontal review thing is harder to swallow. And you could say “well somebody has to enforce federal law,” but you want a more searching exam of who/how.

Jerry Nadler just said at an event you need a SCOTUS that will ~let~ Congress reform the country, that’s why you need court reform. The talk reads to me like the guy is still trying to build a better Death Star, tbh. Accidentally useful b/c ct packing would destroy the Court though.

If there’s an Accommodation between juristocracy and presidentialism that’s driving American political development, it’s not all that consequential that the two sides of the coin occasionally beef. This isn’t Fraenkel’s Dual State. Mom and Dad fight sometimes.
