Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 30/09/2026"Reform & Tory people" won't hear anything Labour says because if they're attracted by the current messaging of those two there's nothing Labour can say which will remotely appeal whilst trying to actually do some good. 010
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The ".... cut your pension " claim would be a lie of course and an easily demonstrable one to floating voters at that. The people who determinedly believe it would never have voted Labour in any case one suspects. 142
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 30/09/2026@wallaceme.bsky.social Interesting article. Occurs to me that the cohort you describe would have been formatively reared during the 1979-97 era of government by parents who elected those successive Tory government promoting notions of individualism and acquisitiveness - transactional values indeed. 000
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Have you tried the Readly app? RT is one among many publications available. 000
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Think maybe things accelerated coincidental to the purge of the Tory moderates, maybe reflecting shifts of the Overton window. Or maybe influencing that shift. 010
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 10/09/2026The logical fallacy count is certainly much higher now than it once was. 000
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Maybe so but over the 25+ years I've been reading it the editorials were regularly disagreeable and indeed at odds with much of the wider commentary. Nowadays its all much more of a piece. They seemed to have a clearout maybe 4 or 5 years ago when Philip Collins, for example, dispensed with. 200
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Well that was lost on this left leaning long term subscriber who read it precisely because it provided a range of views. If it weren't for Atherton writings on cricket and Carol Midgely I'd honestly never read it again. 100
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Agreed, the Times deteriorated about 3 or 4 years ago. Whikst the editorials leaned to the right, a lot of the commentary brought balance. Now they mostly seem to be like Samuels or Melanie Phillips, vile. 210
Reposted by Danny MaximIan Birrell @ianbirrell.bsky.social · 04/09/2026When a party is led by the avaricious, duplicitous and egotistical Nigel Farage and sees Trump's venal kakistocracy as its inspiration, people should not be surprised if it turns out to be a cesspit of sleaze. 0172
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 06/09/2026The greatest strategic error he made was getting elected as an MP Loads of rules, scrutiny, duties, obligations etc without any real power. I didn't think he'd be able to stick it so if there's a recall I expect he'll duck out. Or advised on health grounds. 010
Reposted by Danny MaximDmitry Grozoubinski @explaintrade.com · 04/09/2026So, if I understand Nigel Farage's argument correctly it is: "Everyone I trusted and elevated into a position of responsibility is constantly doing crimes that benefit me but of which I somehow have no knowledge. I am a man with the character, judgement, and intelligence to run the country." Ok. 10436881044
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Quite, but a resounding defeat for the Tories & Reform will aid Labour. 010
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 01/09/2026First day of term and immediately the politicos are making up for a summer deficiency of drama stirring. My guess is this is probably a mutually agreed timing, Labour will hold the seat well and gets it done well ahead of GE. Also potentially deflating result for new Tory mayoral candidate Cleverly. 110

Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Its a little bit surprising that somebody with Tim Martin's political leanings is introducing rules, welcome as they may be. Still won't persuade me to return to a Wetherspoon anytime soon though. 030
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Does that mean trying to reach the unaware/don't care is pointless? There's a broader question of how to restrict availability of products which may pose a danger in the wrong hands or at the wrong time. If we accept a minority of unaware/don't care exists some other greater intervention is needed. 000
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 14/08/2026You underestimate the witless minority to whom the bleedin' obvious is a complete stranger. Obviously the other side is that the morons will be triggered by the alert into doing something moronic. But there's no enforcement capacity anyway so don't worry about the nanny state intervening too much 😞. 110
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 04/08/2026Totally agree that for urban use an SUV is totally inappropriate, there are other vehicles which can seat 5 -7 people without being like a tank. As an aside, a lot more people have camper vans/minibus type vehicles as their daily driver. A reflection of increased recreation time involving vehicles? 000
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Once upon a time local authority Trading Standards services were well enough resourced to look into matters such as this and take action as necessary. I recall a major sportswear manufacturer using the union jack liberally on their products which had actually been manufactured in the far east. 020
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 28/07/2026But going against the USA isn't the primary factor when establishing a UK position. It might be the result but the PM has to consider may things. As I said there are really no good choices in this situation. 100
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 28/07/2026USA isn't the world, I've no problem with goung against them. My point is if Burnham adopted the line you suggest publicly, what would be the benefit to the UK as a result Equally so if he took a pro Israel stance, what would be the consequences? No good choices, politically. 100
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Yes I can see that. On Gaza, I don't think there is a "safe" statement he can make, just as there wasn't for Starmer. By that I mean one which is in the best interests of the UK, politically. 100
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Probably, Starmer was clearly less adept than Burnham on a surface level but I suspect we will find out in due course Starmer has far greater depth than Burnham. 100
Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 28/07/2026As with most things forseeable harms and consequences are not regulated until the genie is out of the bottle. See vapes, escooters as examples where Government declined to get ahead of the curve so as not to stifle innovation despite there being some fairly obvious downsides that have come to pass. 040

Danny Maxim @dannymaxim.bsky.social · 22/07/2026Totally agree, they've turned politics into some kind of reality TV event and are hooked on the prominence the drama gives them. Self importantly trying to create the news instead of report it maturely and objectively without hyperbole. 0132
