iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Even after living and driving in LA and SF, I find SG driving way more stressful and the drivers way worse. The ebike and some cyclists' culture here reflects the same kind of recklessness and self-entitlement.

And in the neighbourhoods, the ebike riders like to blast their music loudly intentionally at 3AM in the morning as they ride through. Not just kids and young adults but even elderly men in their 70s.

The ministers keeps citing a shortage of manpower even though much of the SG police force is outsourced to a govt-linked company, and they also use males serving their 2 years national service as police offiers.

Traffic cops on bikes used to be a common sight on SG roads but they are a rare sight nowadays, at least for the past 10 years or more.

Traffic enforcement in general has been extremely lax IMO and the penalties, even for causing accidents that result in death, have been extremely lenient for many, many years. As a result, we are now at a 10 year high of traffic accident deaths. www.straitstimes.com/singapore/co...

They also created regulations for e-bikes (weight, size, battery capacity, etc) but how this is actually enforced is questionable.

They are finally doing 'active enforcement' by sending out officers to patrol the streets on both the sidewalks and the roads where e-bike riders have been blatently speeding, and even on the expressways. www.youtube.com/shorts/KaSpf...

There have also been quite a number of apartment fires caused by poorly made (and now illegal) modified e-bike batteries and charges, also leading to deaths.

In Singapore, there were several deaths from falls and head injuries in accidents over the past couple of years, especially among the elderly, with e-bikes speeding on the sidewalks before the govt decided to act.

That really sucks about the sleep as it can reduce our capacity on a lot of fronts, especially attention, patience, kindness, etc. For me, it's the incessant neighbourhood traffic noise of car and motorcycle engine revving. Hope the situation gets better for you.

Interestingly, one of the symptoms of Long Covid (post-Covid chronic immune disorder) is having very vivid dreams (along with sleep disorders).

There are many uses for AI in science - modeling, data analysis, certain diagnostics - none of those are LLMs and frankly not even really “AI” as we’ve come to know it at all and TBH we need a different name for this kind of “AI” so the science stuff can stop getting dragged into this argument.

www.xda-developers.com/japan-tried-... Wait, we could have had an open standards hypermedia (embedded multimedia content) operating system from Japan in 1984 (which quite likely would have become themable with anime 😂) that spanned real-time embedded, personal computer, mainframe computer systems?

From the old Horizon docu on the Mondragon co-op groups, loans were also offered to newcomers who might not be able to afford the buy-in (e.g., vocational students). These could be paid off with a part of their monthly salaries but doesn't mention the rate of defaults. archive.org/details/TheM...

People message me that my assets get resold at Fab, itch.io & Roblox. Technically that's legal (sort of debatable), but I still feel it's unfair for people that pay for them while they could've been free. I want my assets to be free, please keep them free.

And of course, they are almost never held accountable for these decisions and consequences and in fact, fail upwards and promoted for "making hard decisions".

danien @danien.bsky.social · 06/08/2026

But they are also the ones who will not measure the true consequences of their decisions, let alone the human costs, especially when those decisions throwaway months of work, kill momentum, drain morale, and throwaway hard-earned talent, skill, and institutional knowledge.

The executive managers claiming that they need to measure worker productivity for efficiency are the same ones claiming gen AI will make their companies more efficient by producing faster and cheaper.

I've had to contact the customer service of banks, hospital/healthcare apps to tell them to stop spamming their non-urgent notifications despite all the marketing preferences being disabled. Their response: you can turn off notifications - but it'll also disable the important ones. 🙄
