Daniel Mote @danielmote.com · 16/09/2026The other big reason it doesn’t usually makes sense to install turbines on individual water towers is that the amount of energy you could recover isn’t high enough to offset the cost. A typical water tower is maybe 150’ tall and holds 1,000,000 gals. That’d be just 470 kWh of potential energy. 120

Ideally, a water tower is just tall enough to provide the required water pressure in that part of the system. Since a turbine will lower the water pressure, they will only work where there’s extra pressure. 140
