Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Some art by Josep M. Beá. One of the reasons i love genre fiction is seeing the ways artists and writers use genre as a very loose template to explore their ideas. 082
Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I love the short stort format in comics. There is something magical about telling a fun, well paced, and even thoughtful story in 12 pages or less. Even more so when you are able to serialize a longer story with that mindset. 030
Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Finally got my copy of the Enrique Breccia slipcase. Breccia, Trillo, and Barreiro fans in the anglosphere are eating good this year 030

Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Amores Perros by Iñárritu is a fantastic film that again, has elements that are clearly inspired by noir but lack the superficial aesthetics (this is again, a very well known film i am using to showcase my point). 020
Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Third World Cop and Dancehall Queen from Jamaica are fantastic crime films that deeply humanized everyone involved and comment on the societal problems that unfortunately still affect jamaica. Again, they lack the superficial aesthetics but have a clear influence from classic crime and noir. 120
Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 10/09/2026"Money to burn" from Argentina (adapted from a novel by literary crime fiction master Ricardo Piglia) is another great example. It clearly shows the influence of classic crime and noir cinema but lacks most of the superficial aestheticd. The social commentary is very pointed. 140
Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 10/09/2026There is a region wide tradition of using crime fiction as a way to examine and critique the socio-political situations each country (and the region as a whole) is dealing with. I recommend this book as a way to get an academic glimpse into the tradition. 182

Daniel G. Wilson @danielgwilson.bsky.social · 12/08/2026Another great piece by Wilfred Limonious. I love how classic Jamaican artists and producers would be styled as everything from Marrial artists to superheroes to mythic figures in classic Dancehall album art. 010
