Thinking about how "access" and "accessibility" get co-opted by ed tech, and how we can re-frame these important concepts.

Rethinking “Access”
I’ve started framing questions of access and AI writing tools in another way: students’ access to their own voices. This access is threatened by rather than dependent on the wide availability of AI. I...

New from 404 Media: we solved which AI company is buying massive shipments of rare books, scanning and destroying them to train AI. We put an Apple AirTag in a rare book, followed it. It ended up at an Amazon facility. Its logo is a dinosaur ripping through a book www.404media.co/we-tracked-a...

Got a good job down at the Data Center. I work on the line, and it's hard work but it's honest and the wage is fair; my family and I are grateful for it. I rivet the word "absolutely" onto the little apologies that chatbots do when they misunderstand a prompt.

New report from IRENA confirms that "in prime solar and wind regions, hybrid solutions combined with storage deliver round-the-clock power at lower costs than fossil fuels." Renewables+storage = round-the-clock power, cheaper than fossil fuels, in an ever-widening set of geographies. Pretty cool.

If you’re far enough into this bias, heinous things done in the open aren’t worth looking at. It’s like the point of gaining information is to feel smart or smug about discovering the “real” hidden truth, so if there’s no puzzle to solve, why bother?
