William Morris was one of the principal figures of the British arts and crafts movement. These beautiful pen and ink drawings with watercolour were made by him around 1867. Both of these designs were used for a stained-glass window, dated 1869, in the Church of St Michael, Tilehurst, Berkshire.

In February 2027, Tate Modern will present its first ever exhibition focusing on the work of Claude Monet. Staged 100 years after his death, the show will feature more than 60 paintings, it will be the UK’s largest presentation of Monet’s work in nearly a decade.

As the once in a millennium Bayeux Tapestry exhibition at the British Museum opens its doors to the public, I wish everyone who visits in the next 10 months the same sense of awe and wonder I felt at seeing it up close (thanks to the brilliant showcase) with all its clear details and bright colours!

Their two back legs are usually unnaturally lengthened, ending in glorious curving brush-strokes. Animals are a recurrent motif in the Islamic tradition, appearing both in royal context and more popular visual culture. See it on display in Gallery 31 on Level 1. 🐇 EA1978.2398

This beautiful object is a fragment from the base of a 13th-century Syrian bowl. It is decorated with a hare in an ‘arrested’ stance, that is with one of their front paws raised, and their head turned to the rear.

The Bayeux Tapestry, a 70 meter long medieval masterpiece created by artisan women, is actually an embroidery in crewel (wool yarn) on a linen ground. Depicting the Norman conquest of England, it was made in the 11th century & will be displayed at the British Museum this year. #WomensArt
