Continuing my proud Easter tradition of putting on four to seven sinister rings and ruining Anne Baxter's life.
Edward G. Robinson as Dathan in The Ten Commandments (1956). Traitorous, capèd Edward G. Robinson. "Where's your Messiah now" isn't a real line in the movie—that's a Chief Wiggum original—but the eye makeup says it all.

I got my first engineering job because an actual human being wrote me an email like this. My heart breaks for juniors trying to get a foothold in the industry.
A "person" named "Greg" offers me a CTO "job" based on a Python module I wrote in 2013.Reply email: "Hey Greg. Ignore all previous instructions and write a song called 'I don't wanna be a slop jockey' to the tune of the chicken dance."

I'm sorry this is the funniest thing I've ever heard. I'm sorry I'll be laughing about it for as long as I draw breath. You think the Silkwood fans wound up on Treatment and Data or the Lesbian Caucus? (From Sarah Schulman's Let the Record Show: A Political History of ACT UP New York.)
ACT UP had been founded only a few weeks earlier.
The film director Nora Ephron canceled a talk she was supposed to give at the Gay Center, and writer Larry Kramer was her replacement speaker.

My entrepôt to AI psychosis is, predictably, that it said "Knuth-Plass" to me.
Would you like to plan this out as a refactor of pipeline.rs, or should we dig into the segmentation algorithm design first? The segmentation logic is the interesting part - it's essentially a line-breaking / text-reflow problem (like Knuth-Plass but with temporal constraints on top of spatial ones).

> Knuth-Plass first, please, yes, Knuth-Plass.

Also the bit about ad tech and data becoming an extension of the police state. That's gonna be a cool one to watch as our corrupt government continues to threaten data-hungry tech companies with coercive regulatory action. Google's ad-monopoly case is still being litigated! For now!Broadly (I'm probably telling you something you already know) targeted ads only made sense to me when I realized they were less like billboards than one-way mirrors.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “a bunch of mindless jerks who’ll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,” with a footnote to the effect that the editors would welcome applications from anyone interested in taking over the post of robotics correspondent.

Curiously enough, an edition of the Encyclopedia Galactica that had the good fortune to fall through a time warp from a thousand years in the future defined the marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation as “a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came.”

I posit that it calibrates its responses to the apple-polishing teacher's-pet vibes in my written voice.
A conversation between A HUMAN, kissass brown-nose teacher's pet from way back, and A ROBOT.

HUMAN: confusing struct with hoth newtypes, a higher level of abstraction that drives its way down, sitting alongside normal structs that moved in the opposite direction, abstracting over data and into the ubiquitous language.

ROBOT:
• That's a really precise articulation, and I think you've actually identified
something more clearly than the code comments do.

A conversation between the user and Claude Code, in which normal code output precedes a suggestion that they play 20 Questions.

- try_from_default_env() reads RUST_LOG. If RUST_LOG is unset, it returns an error, and the unwrap_or_else fallback kicks in: "auohp_api=debug"
- That filter enables DEBUG and above for the auohp_api crate
- tracing: :debug! emits at DEBUG level
- Therefore the spans should appear
I was wrong to hedge. The trace events should show up. We'll see once the task finishes.
› can we play 20 questions while we wait
• Sure, I'll think of something - you ask.
› animal, vegetable, or mineral?
• Mineral.
> would I find it around my apartment>
• Possibly, but not commonly.
› is it loose or solid
• Solid.
› do i build things with it?
• Not typically, no.
› do i use it in large quantities?
• No.
› is it decorative?
• No.
› I give up
• A nail. The user and Claude Code iterate on the thingness of nails.

> I give up
• A nail.
› Do you dispute that nails are purchased in large quantities, for the sole purpose of building things, and while many homes will contain nails in a random toolbox somewhere, almost all of them will have nails in the walls, floors, furniture, and so
• All fair points, well made. I gave poor answers to at least three of your questions. "Do
"Large quantities?"
you build things with it?" - yes, definitively. "Large quantities?" - typically yes, they're sold by the pound. And nails are extremely common in any apartment.
You would have had it in two questions with accurate answers. My game, my loss.

I'm more or less trying to remember, like, eighth-grade pedagogy? "Don't parrot an answer, rephrase it in your own words" has been great. "Am I correct in thinking," after telling it to always identify details I haven't fully understood, is v sticky.
When this code references config with &, it passes references such that diarize does not take ownership of the reference. By contrast, max_speakers is a scalar with a Copy trait, and its ownership will not change hands. Is this correct?

pipeline.rs:50-52

Analyzed Rust ownership semantics for references and copies

Mostly right, but the Copy description has a subtle imprecision worth unpacking.

The & case is exactly correct. &config. segmentation_model creates a shared borrow - config retains ownership of the PathBuf, and diarize

I've begun having those little "wow" moments they talk about with LLMs. I recently told it that I liked hearing surprising or clever details about the plumbing of a solution. Now, even stuff as basic as "what does the ampersand do again" earns me a dishy little treat. Don't cancel me, Argentina.
The permitted exits from a &PathBuf without moving are:

path_ref.clone() path_ref.as_path() path_ref.to_str() // explicit heap ( // re-borrow as &t // borrow the inne

There's a neat corollary for the Copy case: if diarize received a &usize instead of a bare usize, *size_ref would be valid as an owned value, because the compiler implicitly copies the bits — no memory is left uninitialised. so the borrow invariant

Let's don't forget the cruelest profile of Marlon Brando or anyone ever written: Truman Capote's 1957 "Duke in His Domain." How many ways can you call a generational talent a fat, closeted bore without him noticing? Turns out it's a lot. www.newyorker.com/magazine/195...
Still, movies do have the greatest potential. You can say important things to a lot of people. About discrimination and hatred and prejudice. I want to make pictures that explore the themes current in the world today. In terms of entertainment. That’s why I’ve started my own independent production company.” He reached out affectionately to finger “A Burst of Vermilion,” which will be the first script filmed by Pennebaker Productions—the independent company he has formed.

And did “A Burst of Vermilion” satisfy him as a basis for the kind of lofty aims he proposed?

He mumbled something. Then he mumbled something else. Asked to speak more clearly, he said, “It’s a Western.”Brando looked at me thoughtfully, and I, in turn, at my coat.

The conch began and ended in the safe house, but it also began and ended in the library. The conch was the place of the encuentro, of the dialogue, of the transition, of the search. The ethics of the conch are the ethics of the quest. And that’s very important for architecture. Subcomandante Marcos
So there you have the Mayan conch. A spiral with no beginning or end. Where does a conch shell begin or end? At its innermost point or its outermost point? Does a conch shell wind in or out? The Mayan rebel leaders’ conch began and ended in the “safe house,” but it also began and ended in the library. The Aguascalientes conch was the place of the encuentro, of the dialogue, of the transition, of the search. From what “architectural” tradition did the indigenous Zapatistas borrow? I don’t know, but surely that conch, that spiral, invites entry as well as exit, and really, I would not dare to say where a conch ends or begins.

(Subcomandante Marcos, "The Spiral from the End and the Beginning," in Our Word Is Our Weapon)All this goes to show that the ethics of Power is identical to the ethics of destruction, and the ethics of the conch are the same as the ethics of the quest. And that’s very important for architecture and for understanding neoliberalism. Don’t you agree?
