A year since AI tool Tilly Norwood ‘debuted’, it’s clearer than ever that performers need protections from AI exploitation.

Disabled performers face significant barriers to the industry. Meanwhile non-disabled actors continue to be cast in disabled roles, denying jobs to disabled performers. Following a motion from our Deaf & Disabled Committee we have committed to advocate for the Disability Conscious Casting Framework.

Today is another challenging day for many Disabled People as the assisted dying bill is debated and voted on in the UK Parliament. This is a highly emotive issue. Everyone has their opinions. I like many Disabled People am fearful of this bill. For a number of reasons here’s a list.

Angry thread incoming 🧵Yesterday I went to the Houses of Parliament to protest cuts to PIP. Only today to be totally infantilised by MP’s threatening to take away Disabled people’s “pocket money” how dare you! Our social security enables us to barely if at all meet the extra costs of being Disabled.

Dear @wesstreeting , More people are diagnosed with mental illness because growing up in austerity increases mental illness rates—then a 2 million-strong waiting list cements disability. Stop making people who already feel like a burden feel even worse. Best, Dr Jay Watts

One more time for ministers at the back: it’s entirely possible to be a taxpayer and to receive benefits. As someone currently in the mid-tax band and on PIP, I’m more than happy for my earnings to help people who can’t work - and to pick up the state support I’m entitled to.
But Reeves herself seems in no mood to back down. In an interview on BBC Breakfast this morning, where she was responding to the growth figures, Reeves was asked about the plans for welfare cuts. She replied:

We will set out our plans for welfare reform, but it is absolutely clear that the current system is not working for anyone.
It is not working for people who need support, it’s not working to get people into work so that more people can fulfil their potential, and it’s not working for the taxpayer when the bill for welfare is going up by billions of pounds in the next few years.
So, we do need to get a grip. We need to spend more on national defence, but we need to reform our public services, and we need to reform our broken welfare system.

Why do the government keep saying there is ‘no consensus from experts’ on what is increasing the number of people on #PIP? Literally every expert recognises long delays for treatment are worsening disability which becomes entrenched more with lack of early care.
