A year since AI tool Tilly Norwood ‘debuted’, it’s clearer than ever that performers need protections from AI exploitation.

Disabled performers face significant barriers to the industry. Meanwhile non-disabled actors continue to be cast in disabled roles, denying jobs to disabled performers. Following a motion from our Deaf & Disabled Committee we have committed to advocate for the Disability Conscious Casting Framework.

Today we mourn, we rest. Then we regroup. Our community is one of the most resilient in the world not because we should be but we've had to be. We fight to exist daily of which this is another example. We may be tired but we will fight for our protection. Much love ❤️

As the result of the assisted dying vote starts to sink in...I just wanted to send love❤️❤️ To all my Disabled friends and colleagues that fought so hard to try and stop the opening of this Pandora's Box. I salute you. Some of our worst fears have been realised. The fight has now changed and goes on

4. Once we open this Pandora's Box there is no going back the goal posts will move and shift over time and I do fear that this is a back door to legalised eugenics.

3. In the current climate where the government is threatening to rip up Disability Support in terms of Benifits it creates a perfect storm of danger for my community.

1. I do not feel the bill is fit for purpose or the protections in it go far enough. 2. I feel with an underfunded NHS leading to inadequate palliative care services mean assisted dying aka assisted suicide will be as a "better option" leading over promotion and use.

Dan Edge @danedge.com · 20/06/2025
Today is another challenging day for many Disabled People as the assisted dying bill is debated and voted on in the UK Parliament. This is a highly emotive issue. Everyone has their opinions. I like many Disabled People am fearful of this bill. For a number of reasons here’s a list.

Just for info the origin of the word Handicapped is debated when it comes to the Disabled community some believe it has links to having to “go cap in hand” and beg for money because of being unable to work ie. Taking your hat off so rich people put money in it. Hence why many find it problematic

At the Disability Social Security protests in London this week I had a chat with #PoliticsJoe These cuts are still nonsensical, dangerous, and need to be stopped. As I said during my speech representing @equityuk.bsky.social which I might post later. It's time to move from resilience to resistance

Disabled protestors in times gone by also had a phrase p*** on pity so guess where many of us think you can stick your sympathy in that particular sense Ms Reeves. Again though this language is used to other and separate to make Disabled people seem less than. Don’t buy it resist! Fight back

Dan Edge @danedge.com · 27/03/2025
Let’s also look at “Employers that are sympathetic” to shall we. News flash… those employers have equality and employment law that mean sympathy is irrelevant. However no government to this day has properly enforced it and discrimination unintentionally or otherwise is rife.
110
Dan Edge @danedge.com · 27/03/2025
The truth is though this language has been chosen on purpose to infantilise Disabled people, to make us look like whining teenagers to other us.

Some might argue MP’s expenses do something similar just you know, without needing them to survive bit. How about we look at MP’s “pocket money” I’m sure that would be a very different conversation though

Angry thread incoming 🧵Yesterday I went to the Houses of Parliament to protest cuts to PIP. Only today to be totally infantilised by MP’s threatening to take away Disabled people’s “pocket money” how dare you! Our social security enables us to barely if at all meet the extra costs of being Disabled.

Dear @wesstreeting , More people are diagnosed with mental illness because growing up in austerity increases mental illness rates—then a 2 million-strong waiting list cements disability. Stop making people who already feel like a burden feel even worse. Best, Dr Jay Watts
