Mississippi [sic] doesn’t even qualify for most letters in a state with this abject stupidity.

Yeah, good call. The dystopian strains in Disch, Dick, early Sterling maybe. Also maybe Lem. I’m drawing blanks tonight, but the atmosphere is thick with this stuff.

Somebody in the admin must be gaming out the timed deployment of utterly noxious stuff they can ram through during their lame duck apocalypse.

I’m glad you came up with something. I reflected on the post but came up blank, weirdly. I think I was being too comprehensive. I wonder from a different angle: wouldn’t there be some elements in the darker annals of new wave sci fi political spec? Again though, not whole cloth (and not stupid).

Loosely modeled on his father. I can see the grift / ruthless carnival barker angle. Some of the current, hyper imperialist propaganda schtick / ethno nationalism probably festers elsewhere. My mind went to post-war Eastern Europe. Your Tarr example is intriguing, though unexpected.

I think Ossoff above all is genuinely talented and he’d rise above most GOP operatives. Your point is well-taken. Dems must plan beyond 2028 into some very difficult terrain.

I hope it is a net gain for Troy Jackson to do these debates. Collins is increasingly deplorable and infirm. Jackson seems sharp, though relatively inexperienced.

Tickets to an Ossoff debate must be selling like hotcakes. He can burn the house down, and that’s precisely what we need now.

What an impoverished dodge. “I’ll take this season’s talking points for $500,” says the Yale law cosplayer.

Yes, thanks, it’s been a long time since I’ve viewed it. Some montage elements were pretty intense. I remember the soundtrack being quite evocative too.

A good question. I don’t know, but it did get me thinking about the wonderful film Threshold, circa 1981 and starring a personal fave, Donald Sutherland, as a heart surgeon who performs the first successful heart transplant (I believe). Tremendously moving depiction.

I’m not sure I’d call it horror (though I’m not much of a horror fan). It does violate boundaries of personality and psyche in ways that were taboo and not well-realized on screen. That was both horrific and liberating. It’s one of IB’s best and aesthetically risky works.

Her rulings have been very good in the past. Interested to see how she responds here. Repurposing Guantanamo for more “dark arts” should receive intense public scrutiny.

The language of this order is so important. It’s the “naming names” stage of resisting federal sabotage.

Here's a nearly 10-minute supercut of Troy Jackson taking it to Susan Collins during their debate tonight, including Jackson telling her "you can't eat road salt" and "Collins is like an arsonist who helped set the fire, and then she wants credit for bringing a cup of water to put it out"

This is a really thoughtful piece. The progenitors of this stuff are fundamentally not agile, nor deep critical thinkers, beyond perhaps coding or granular development. And their intellectual foundation is indeed juvenile, and yet: they continue hijacking the narrative platform as authorities.

Can particles move faster than light? Have a look at the video to learn more about Cherenkov radiation – the discovery that received the 1958 physics prize. This was a key component in the experiments made by today's physics laureate Francis Halzen in his research on neutrinos.

Agree 100%. It’s also a subtle propaganda technique to depoliticize and disempower citizens, by preempting a failed result. Something like, “dont obey in advance”, version doomer. Don’t doom in advance. Especially given robust opposition in the federal courts.

Mostly impressionistic features that could also work on a sociological level: Edward Yang’s contemporaneous films on Taiwanese capital / life; The transformation of Chinese economy / life in Jia Zhangke, like Still Life; Laurent Cantet’s work, like Time Out; Probably some of Harun Farocki

If the Democrats win, they have to be ready to bring generational change. Reform the courts, eliminate the filibuster, expand the house, admit DC and Puerto Rico as states, pass a new voting rights act, and prosecute every single corrupt member of the Trump admin.

This is a magnificent lawsuit, regardless of outcome. Rufo et al cannot deny away their role in the narrative framing that ultimately led to murder and ethnic cleansing. The suit names names, and does the heavy lifting to connect their involvement.

This is blatantly unconstitutional and an Antideficiency Act violation. Congress set the ADA penalty in 1906: 2 years in jail and/or a $5,000 fine. It would’ve taken the typical person 31,250 hours of work to pay the fine then, meaning it’s the equivalent of a $1.2 million fine today.
