When Trump says “in two weeks” or “in a few weeks,” that does not mean he has a secret brilliant plan he’s about to execute. It means he has no idea, but wants to sound like he does, while keeping attention like a TV show going “all this excitement same time next week.” We’re a decade into this.

It was novel when I started in '78, but I've never enjoyed a flight in my life. Leaving the ground is the only remotely entertaining instant for hours.

Nothing an OMB director does excites an electorate. "The president teased he has some history-making ‘big surprises’ to unveil in the weeks leading up to the 2026 midterms. Trump, during a Tuesday afternoon, said the mystery revelations will be coming from Russell Vought.” Eliminate Medicare?

Just a catalyst to boost Democratic turnout on response. "Polling places could be scary!" "Fuck you, I'll bring my 102-year-old grandmother from the home with me!" And so on.

Douglass but not MLK? LOL, Douglass said some really vicious stuff without the polite preacher veneer and gentler demeanor MLK brought to the debate. Texas gonna Texas. The real import of all this plus Florida won't show up for a few years when redneck grads can't get into PhD progs out of state.

I hope the next president has the sense to tear down all the barricades on day one and invite the citizenry to come enjoy their public space again. I remember going down there the day Biden was declared the winner. We deserve another celebration to start Reconstruction.

I am often reminded how people on a CRUSADE online do NOT want to hear about any practical obstacle to their sweeping, imaginary solution to one of life's HUGE problems. It messes up the whole THERE IS A MAGIC BUTTON FOR THAT! argument (which, of course, does get them lots of clicks).

Sometimes getting blocked reminds/shows you for the first time that someone whose posts you found interesting can actually be a major league jerk. I never miss the content from those sites. Because the jerk part will inevitably recur. Yes, the Senate is unfair. Boo hoo. Grow up and deal with it.

Among likely voters, more than half disapprove of his performance on immigration. Again, this is in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, and Texas. All states Trump won by double digits. And get this: The percentages who strongly disapprove are in the forties in all these states.

The question is how would you undo them? No amendment will pass, nothing can change, it's all just tilting at windmills. The Senate compromise was fundamental to the US ever existing. That's not a disputed fact. Changing it is impossible. Also not disputable. Ergo....

He omits the millions of people in the streets that day and every day. If you declare martial law, you have to enforce it. Strong chance that ends with Trump dying in prison when it fails. Does he risk that? Plus Eisen and company will game plan that scenario 200%.

Only the nonpartisan Clerk of the House could try, then a federal judge would order them to 30 seconds later. No reason to.

Mike Johnson immediately stops being Speaker as soon as this Congress dissolves. He has no power over the next Congress, unless that Congress elects him to be Speaker. There is zero mechanism by which he could prevent any elected member of Congress from taking their seat.

So just reverse the 1787 Constitutional Convention or get 38 states to agree to change the compromise from that event. Any obstacles to that? Otherwise, this is just hot air.

It's so freaking tiresome listening to people cry about representation in the Senate. Without it, the 1789 Constitution doesn't happen, and the baby country likely falls apart. Anything about that not clear? And anyone think the states who benefit from this would approve an amendment to change it?

I want this lying, sundowning grifter to continue speaking off-the-cuff, emptying his hollow soul into microphones in every swing state he can reach in the next month. I want him out there every day, revealing some fresh thread of malignant, fatuous idiocy. I think he's now a political plague.

“While the causes of the chaos may appear disparate, they can be traced to a common root: France’s two-decade-long struggle to fund its state, exacerbated by high borrowing costs, surging fuel prices and political uncertainty, with jockeying underway to replace President Macron next spring.”

“France suddenly finds itself engulfed by crisis — not a single spasm, but a cascade that is roiling city streets, trading floors and public offices across the country. France’s ‘rentrée,’ or ‘return,’ as the French call the back-to-school and back-to-work season, has been anything but orderly.”

I love visiting France, but all this would make it sad to live there. “Striking public workers. Barricaded high schools. Blocked ports. Budget paralysis. Spiraling bond rates. Fears of a far-right takeover,” the New York Times reports.

Not "ominous" just stupid and powerless... "Trump offered an ominous prediction/threat on Monday, saying The New York Times is nearing the end of its existence....went on a tear against the Gray Lady after it reported that the venue where he hosted a rally in Alabama on Friday ‘was not full.'”

They are totally partisan AND a total waste of time. The efficacy of political TV ads is falling off a cliff through sheer absurd proliferation. Plus a huge % of potential viewers don't even watch TV or ignore 99% of the ads they see online. I keep waiting for political animals to figure this out.

Yes, this! The problem with the canon is (a) when it’s taught to the exclusion of all else, and (b) when it’s taught as a representation of higher, universal truths rather than a product of its historical social and cultural context.

Too big, too dispersed over 50 states, nowhere near enough federal agents, soldiers aren't going to do it, and even if they could.... It could only be maintained with outright dictatorship vs. 20 million people in the streets the next day and every day after. Trump lacks the brains and the balls.

You don't have to make this shit up, it's true. “A man running to become a police chief in a small town in Louisiana has been accused of raping two girls... “Although he was arrested on charges of rape, Chris Paul remains on the ballot, running unopposed, as the other candidate was stepping down.”
