Pay squeezes in freelance creative jobs are a grim scene. The expected payments for most musical jobs as a freelancer are the same in figure terms as they were when I first started doing this 25 years ago.

Not already a member? Why not join? The AWFC are doing some amazing work to support and promote women and gender diverse composers in this challenging industry. They offer advice, mentorship, masterclasses, events and workshops, as well as access to a vibrant community.

With the Golden Globes tonight, if you want to know a little more about some of the nominated scores/composers, I have interviews with Daniel Blumberg (The Brutalist) and Kris Bowers (The Wild Robot), and an older interview with Volker Bertelmann (Conclave), links below:

I know I say this every time we meet but that score is SO good

Absolutely the latter. Do we need to be hurtling through the week from task to task and from social event to social event?

Congrats to all the nominees for Best Original Music (Mejor Música Original) at the Feroz Awards! Apparently the Feroz Awards are considered the “Spanish Golden Globes” - we often focus only on the American/British awards but there’s a whole dang world out there

This is an excellent explanation of why I choose to write in a partnership with Tom. Nothing unlocks a creative block faster than someone handing you a 🔑 to door you didn’t even realise was there to walk through. The magic of ending up somewhere unexpected is my favourite thing about co-scoring.

There are a number of reasons why great works by historical women composers aren’t well known and at the heart of the classical canon, even though it’s clear that they should be. One reason: exposure. There are decades worth of recordings by male composers, often in multiple versions. (1/5)
