I'm not sad for the working mathematicians who are getting front-run by OpenAI and Anthropic. I am sad for this generation of grad students who have worked for years now to find a different thesis... I know people who had to trash years of work because a human did, I can't imagine it from a machine.

A meme featuring two frames from "Game of Thrones." The top frame shows a satisfied character with the news that the Trump family's net worth rose by $2.9 billion from crypto investments. The bottom frame depicts a stressed character, labeled as "American Small Business Owners," highlighting the contrasting emotions regarding financial success and struggle.

It’s really remarkable to me that 10 years into this people feel compelled to “clarify” Trump’s homicidal and often genocidal fantasies. It is deranged for the president to daydream about American cities in states he hates getting blown up. Full stop.

The Iran war is not unpopular solely because of gas prices. Sure that's part of it. But it was unpopular from the start because Americans genuinely are viscerally repulsed by the idea of yet another goddamned war in the middle east. Iraq and Afghanistan are generationally embedded scars.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

Emmanuel is backwards. The correct strategy is to systematically hold impeachment hearings on all of Trump's cabinet secretaries and then write ethics reform legislation based on the evidence developed at those hearings. Go department by department, start with Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense.

Not the most important reason, but a good reason justices and lower court judges should serve fixed finite terms is to shut down this absurd race to the bottom. It's only the last vestige of shame that's stopped us breaking through 30 to have 20-somethings on the bench and that'll go soon enough.

Not just impeachable. Impeachment, both pres. and agency heads, is the only option. It's impeachment or nothing. Courts won't stop it. Other tools are impotent. Put them on trial the only way you can. Even if you can't get 2/3, use process as punishment. Make it miserable and costly. It can be done.

We should try having some group of people who get to vote on approving agency heads like OMB director.

Sen. Susan Collins

@SenatorCollins
Without warning or consultation, Congress just received an $810 million package of pocket rescissions from the Administration. This is the most recent attempt by this Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to undermine Congress’s Constitutional power of the purse.

This move shows that OMB intentionally withheld these funds for months to execute this unlawful cancellation of appropriations that were approved on a bipartisan basis and signed into law.

Not only is the delay itself an impoundment that was not reported to Congress, but also it is a usurpation of Congress’s appropriations powers. OMB is an agency of the executive branch. It does not get to decide which programs are worth funding.

The independent Government Accountability Office has concluded that pocket rescissions are unlawful and not permitted by the Impoundment Control Act. Any effort to rescind appropriated funds without congressional approval is a clear violation of the law.

I will work with my colleagues to address these illegal actions.
