This day in 1922; The release of "Haxan". Not sure this is really a great film. There's no real plot, the "documentary" parts (clearly tacked on to avoid a ban) are dull, too long & pretentious. But the visuals! No matter how Goth or Metal you think you are somebody's Grandparents were there first;

I remember when Toronto City Council banned street posters for gigs and political rallies etc because they said they were ugly and distracting to drivers. In fact I organized resistance to those bans and testified at two of the hearings. And 20 years later this Temu "Blade Runner" slop is OK?

Also unlike Louise & Clara Bow, Colleen was not a tragic heroine. She was a sober, sensible girl who never had a scandal, managed her money and lived a long happy life after film although she did marry four times. She made 64 films, many of which survive & died aged 88 still wearing bobbed hair.

..was praised by F Scott Fitzgerald as the perfect Jazz Age Flapper, retiring shortly after sound came in because she just didn't care for talkies. She's not as well remembered today partly because her films were mostly light rom-coms which while popular were never fashionable then or now...
