If you think about the huge run up in housing prices, the older millenials are ones that are more likely to have taken out a mortgage and benefitted from the appreciation... whereas the younger are either lacking it, or taking out huge mortgages that haven't had time to pay off.

The oldest millenials are 45, so only half the generation is under 35. That half has a lot less wealth than the upper half due to age if nothing else. So, you can have a really big % drop in 25-35 wealth that doesn't translate nearly as much when it's 25-45.

So we have a while yet before it catches up to historical totals.

Out of curiosity, I asked a machine and it indicates the current token usage is around a billion people speaking for 24 hours per day. Token usage is roughly forecast to triple per year, so even with very rough approximations involved, in a few years it would be equivalent to current pop ratewise.

Makes me kind of wonder when or whether we'll cross a threshold, such that most human trains of thought and reading are the work of LLMs rather than humans... They read and produce tokens quite quickly.

So, bring on the text elementals, tulpas and other wild imaginings. We may be denied the full truth, but there is a certain honesty to cloaking ignorance in myth. This would contribute to a long, rich history of human mythologization. Might also stop overly precise talk from fooling ourselves.

which most likely represent the solution, proof, illustrations, programs and chains of logical thought of dozens of collaborators describing a correct solution to Navier-Stokes. This was unknown and unpredictable a few shorts years ago, today's future is still shrouded.

Even their creators can't tell why, what threshold lets them do what they can. Philosophers talk about when grains of sand together become a pile; nobody can tell you when a statistically pile of words goes from telling you a most likely next word, to telling you the next 100 billion words

Maybe we need a whole new pantheon, a dozen mythos's with all the technically wrong (but hopefully directionally correct) answers to what they are or aren't, what these unknowable things want, their powers and domains. Nobody understands their true nature currently.

Partly this is the end of space racing, and partly it's the unpredictability of the current technological moment. Strongly held, entirely contradictory, visions for AI are everywhere. LLMs aren't little people with agendas or feelings, but maybe we need more rather than less fuzzy headed thinking.

Got me thinking about Old Man Winter, all the Gods and all the mythmaking of the seasons. We built them to help ourselves understand what was otherwise too big and too unknowable. Someone recently was talking to me about the death of realistic sci-fi, how it's generally fantastical and unlikely.

Read a cute story (Oak The Littlest Lead Girl-it's great) to my little one yesterday about a leaf girl. Said leaf girl had her life upended by the blowing of Autumn's chill wind. It was all metaphorical change, winds blowing, seasons changing, as a concrete way to help kids navigate life changes.

Not really following this the same way. The chips are fine, which is why investors are expecting to buy them and lease them out to people that want them. Is what's bothering you that users would be renting rather than owning?

This to me is a bit like saying the build out during the dot com boom will never be profitable enough to justify the capex. True in a narrow sense - almost all of those backbone companies failed and liquidated. Maybe Oracle et al fall. Broadly though, the Internet far exceeded the infra capex.

Of course, now the enumerated statements are reasoning all the time about everything. enough statements and the quantity has quality all its own

When I learned about Godel's incompleteness theorem a couple decades ago and similar diagonal arguments about the bounds of reasoning after reducing statements to numbered tokens, well I thought it was interesting and cute... a little too cute to be too practical outside of fundamental math.

The beauty of Clinton as a speaker was the dedication to meet you where you are coming from. Contrast Bush recoiling-don't blame me for not having economic cancer. Clinton did end and say a lot of this doesn't depend on the debt... But she wanted to know what he personally experienced on the same.

I really don't see this as precanned -he talked about unemployment because she specifically said that's how she was seeing the effects. Gave him a chance to talk about all the unemployment related issues he worked with as governor. He briefly talks about the debt hamstringing his budget to help.

Sure it's fixable, but part of the idea of jev is it's a low effort, cheap, arbitrary classifier. The low effort approach to anything is unlikely to involve preprocessing a document, and your average resume has a name on it.

A study has shown that classical music has more appeal to younger audiences than ever before.

organizers and over 1000 participants were given full refunds because they did expect they wouldn't be subjected to these conditions. There are 2 minute penalties given for spilling water or spitting it, establishing a track standard inconsistent with what was permitted.

Unlike a foot race, there is lots of equipment, artificial track you need to throw yourself on, sledges to push, balls to throw, etc. This is a lot more intimate contact with soiled surfaces than pounding pavement on a dirty trail. Maybe you still don't expect people to stop themselves, but

restrict the extent of a mess. Baby's diaper leaks, don't just write off the whole house and sit her on the couch, move her to the bed, etc., it helps if you isolate the mess. Same thing if you have an accident, don't wait for your boss or mother to tell you not to move, stop and clean it up.

Safety is never solely the responsibility solely of organizers, these are adults not toddlers. If you want to believe as soon as one area was contaminated the entire area was, you're free to do so. I guess you've never cleaned up or seen a spill before, but it is actually possible to physically
