thinking about the popularity of so many "redraw trends" and plagiarism of compositions by all sorts of artists (it comes up often for gposing but 2D artists do it too). i have to sum up my discomfort with it as follows: it's artists treating other artists the same way A/I treats art as data

I hope those load bearing followers know how much they mean to artists. Regulars, esp regular commenters that engage your work and story do not go without notice and are to be cherished. It's esp why I try to reply to let them know! (and why I wish I could keep track of any I've missed replying to )

many posture themselves as self-flaggelators while forgetting that mortification is about faith. the flagellation is in the growth, the hard work put into your craft. that is the "suffering" : not berating yourself again and again until you've forgotten why you began creating in the first place.

focusing on skill doesn't make your art better or make you like your art more. the most miserable self-loathing artists are often the most professionally skilled. what makes you like your art is whether you actually like it, it's that simple. and if you don't like it, make something you will.
