I now cook for a living, and my biggest mental dilemma is being flabbergasted when ppl don't know how to cook for themselves while knowing there are whole generations of people who will gladly pay me money because of it.

Almost daily I am reminded how lucky I was to have grown up in a food-centric home. Not that we ate all the time, but that everyone alive in that family knew how to cook and it was important to learn how to do it properly and well. The kitchen was the true heart of the home.

Read the first slide and thought it made an ok argument. Read the second slide and realized this person (and their parents) doesn't know how to cook, so *all* food they have at home probably tastes like "dog food" to them.

This. I didn't have a teacher who cared until I hit 7th grade. She was my math teacher. I hated her lol. Then she set me up with getting into extracurriculars as an outlet for my ADHD and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

What I fear is what already happened when Biden won. There was no accountability, everyone just sat on their hands like it was business as usual, and the GOP was able to recover and come back worse. We cannot afford to make that mistake a second time.

no lie, when I first moved into my house there was an abandoned vehicle right next door. after way too many calls to get a cop out to check it, ends up it had been reported stolen. Also had a truck sit so long that weeds were growing in the bed and they wouldn't tow it until the reg expired. 🙃

I was sitting in programming class and someone came in telling us a plane hit the World Trade Center. The entire class immediately began looking for any live feed online. We found one and huddled around the one computer just in time to watch the second plane hit. I could never forget the moment.

Used to also be independent coffee shops (which survived Prohibition), but even those are few and far between now. Even the smaller, local spots feel somewhat corporate in that they expect you to be consuming while you're there. Anything else is "loitering" and frowned upon.

I've only been to Ireland and N. Ireland, but the biggest difference I noticed is that pubs there (the nice old ones at least) felt more homey than in the US. Here bars are for drinking, full stop. There they felt more like coffee shops or restaurants. The drinking was 2nd to being a meeting space.

I've never felt like I wasted a vote except in this case. He did such good for Braddock, and was a solid Lt Gov, only to completely drop the ball once elected to the Senate. I'm still holding on to the conspiracy theory that the GOP is blackmailing him somehow. Just for my own pride and sanity.

My only knowledge of color theory comes from miniature painting, but I've always seen the rule of thumb to be something on the purple end of the red spectrum. afaik, it comes down to shadows being a blue-black, so when it's on a red fleshtone it looks more purple-y 🤷

Food pro here: I don't mind QR codes, but menus are not hard. Just from an accessibility stance. I feel the same about restaurants that limit you to one payment option. I don't carry cash (so skip cash-only places), but I'm just as mad at "no cash" spots. It's a rly weird fight in the industry rn.
