Great question, so because all data is public by default, there's nothing stopping anyone from taking that, and using it for training data. This has been a concern for a bit, so there's a proposal being discussed on how to mitigate this. github.com/bluesky-soci...

Id ask myself, "what would the user gain from having this piece of data public?" Right now, all data on #atproto is public by default. If your app mainly involves data that should be kept private, then it may not be the right fit.

A pretty interesting take. Id be curious to know what the balance between how many ads should be shown to a user. Too much, and it detracts from their experience. Too little, and there may not be enough incentive for advertisers to use it.

1. there are guides out there on how to deploy your own relay. I wrote one under for Blacksky 2. Ownership was transferred to an independent org in Sep 2025 3. I agree that protocol development feels closed off to any non-bsky devs. Hoping that changes soon

you won't attract enough users to break away from walled garden network effects by talking about atproto, the atmosphere, and bluesky. you build a product they need and will use daily, and you add social features because they are a good fit for the experience. atproto is an implementation detail.
