Yep. The Polestar 3 is made in the US. Ironically several top selling EVs from Us brands are not made in the US. I have a Polestsr 2 (in the US) which is made in China and a Hyundai EV made in the US. These people have no concept of how connected things are.

Some great used deals on these EVs. Shame they never got to bring in the more affordable entry specs due to the tariffs the US companies convinced the US government to levy to “give them time to catch up”… they just ran out the clock until the election.

Coming from a VW Golf R it drove surprising well when we tested it. Acceleration we expected but the handling was a pleasant surprise. The lack of a true one pedal mode and physical buttons knocked it out for us, bust still a nice car.

And because looks can be deceiving, when I post a picture of this or a Kia EV3 a lot of people assume they are large SUVs. This EV is actually 2 inches shorter than a VW Golf. You can compare them on carsized.com

A lot of folks say they want Chinese electric cars. Interesting that I see a lot of these small Volvo EX30s in Portland. For those that don’t know Volvo is owned by a Chinese company, Geely, & this car is made in China. Had it not been for US tariffs this car would have been a lot more affordable.

Totally. As I get older I’ve realized how import it is to be a part of a functional, independent community of makers, growers, & craftspeople and not be on a transactional feedback loop of constantly giving money to big corporations for meaningless junk. That stuff will never fill you up.

As a laid OPB subscriber I’m disappointed in this article. This is the second rather dunderheaded article about EVs from this author @opb.org There are already so many level 2 & 3 chargers all over PDX metro. If there were to be a gov funded fast charger it would go to the coast or out east.

Agreed, and I think an article with the headline of "I drove an EV on a roadtrip and turns out it was easy" Maybe just doesn't get the boomers to click on it. Instead it's always "the EV charger wasn't exactly where I wanted it, I had to drive 500 feet, we aren't ready for the transition!"

Same happened to us the first time we took a trip outside the Renge of the car. Seems like "range anxiety" is mostly just clickbait articles (sad to say @oregonian.com just published a bogus EV article today) and FUD the oil companies like to spread... turns out plugging stuff in is easy. #ev

The amount of rationalization some people will make to keep burning oil is getting pretty crazy. Driving 5k miles per year this person would have still saved thousands in gas. Plus a quick cars.com search shows a bunch of Nissan Leafs and Chevy Bolts under $20k.

At $7 / gal $150 gets me 21 gallons. 500 miles divided by $150 = 23 MPG which is better real world MPG than my VW Golf R got.

After living with an EV with 250 miles of range and now a second that has 350 miles of range 440 seems like overkill… but people have been shoveled so much manure about range anxiety and cross country edge case road trips most people will never take that this will help I’m sure.

I think it will do well for them. The i4 EV has sold well for them I think because it looks identical to the 4 series other than the grille. I think this strategy of just making it look like the same car is good for mainstreaming of EVs that is now happening.

Same. We charge our polestar off a 240v 50 amp outlet but we charge our Ioniq 5 on a standard 120v 15 amp! Been doing that for over a year and it’s been totally manageable.

Good point! They are comparing the standard EV model to the top of the line M gas model because they have similar horsepower. Though of course the EV will have instant torque. There will be a M version of the EV that I’m certain will absolutely crush the M gas model.
