West Coast Environmental Law @wcelaw.bsky.social · 06/08/2026
They thought we wouldn't notice them slip this in during the long weekend ‼️ As Canada burns, the federal gov wants to designate the proposed west coast oil pipeline as a "project of national interest"—allowing it to sidestep critical environmental laws & assessments. Feedback is being accepted now.

A case of Mini-me DOGE. The Carney government has been firing scientists and researchers. Now they are asking some of them to come back to help figure things out. We risk a great deal in losing research expertise in agriculture, climate, fisheries/oceans. www.nationalobserver.com/2026/07/31/n...

Feds ask fired scientists to advise on Canada's future research
Officials at Canada's agriculture department are asking scientists who were abruptly fired earlier this year to help the agency decide its future research goals, Canada's National Observer has found.

Believe me when I say that I understand these are complex times and in such times certain things need to be prioritized. But the combination of fast-tracking projects with our government turning its back on environmental commitments goes beyond my patience. I believe we can do better.

I share your sentiment, but these aren't wild accusations. They have been well documented and are real. They are decisions that have directly lead to the unemployment of many of my colleagues, dismantling of programs, and has generated an anxiety in my field that hasn't been present since Harper.

I encourage you to do some research on this - Carney's approach to the environment sector is well documented. 100,000 jobs is great and I didn't say otherwise. But those gains run concurrent to numerous broken promises that have hamstrung my industry. Hence my frustration. No missing logic here.

Is the Fraser River Delta, a critical stopover for migratory birds, salmon, and hotbed of biodiversity considered part of our "extraordinary natural heritage"?

Daniel Stewart @d-stewart.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
The complete lack of media coverage on the ecological importance and social dynamics of the Fraser River Delta is mind blowing. Avoids big fights with environmentalists? Are you not familiar with how long it took for RBT2 to be green lit? Would be really nice to see a local perspective voiced.

Interesting! Climate change is obviously a part of the conversation, but I feel like the connection between range expansion and direct/indirect human activities is undersold. YBM recently arrived & exploded in the Lower Mainland, likely from the railway. I've heard similar stories elsewhere.
