Apart from the question of how college admissions should work. As a factual matter, the current relationship between wealth and admissions at elite universities is almost tailor-made to generate tons of hostility and criticism among the most vocal part of society. www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The Trump administration is dismantling a $368 million deep-ocean monitoring network 900+ sensors tracking climate currents, fishery health, ocean carbon absorption, and coastal flooding along the East Coast. Ships go out in June to start pulling it up. Congress funded it twice after Trump

Trump administration shuts down deep-sea instruments that monitored climate change for a decade. “By dismantling such a system, we push the United States back yet again into a rear seat in global scientific leadership,” said a former official. WIN: A federal court ruled today that the federal government’s attempts to undercut Endangered Species Act protections for the sake of coal mining were illegal. Coal mines will now be required to follow the law and ensure their activities don’t harm protected plants and animals.

I’m a climate scientist. Let me fix this headline. “Nearly a century ago, scientists showed that burning fossil fuels warms the planet. Today, we know human emissions account for over 100% of the warming. Yet dark money and disinformation still work to keep Americans addicted to fossil fuels.”
