Artist and amateur tree grower interested in climate change trees. Currently researching the bald cypress, a flood-proof, hurricane-proof, fast growing hard wood tree from the south that is excellent for carbon sequestration and firming up shorelines.

Today we launched the first prototype of a plastic-free floating wetland. Wetland plants can help to improve water quality by sucking out excess nutrients. There are plenty of tuna in here but none of them are in very good condition. The dream is to be able manage this pond for mahinga kai.
Mohi modelling the floating wetland. The frame is bamboo found on site, lashed together with harakeke and topped with jute sacks donated by Whittaker's.Juncus, Carex sexta and water cress on the island. The island from another angle.

MKII will use giant bamboo, lashed together to make a more solid platform with the jute sacks over the top.

The Amazon is 5.5 MILLION km² - bigger than Europe's half. It spans 9 countries, yet 60% is in Brazil alone. 390 BILLION trees. 16,000 tree species. It's not just a forest. It's a continent of life. 🌎 #AmazonRainforest

To stand in an ancient forest is to stand in a cathedral. We cannot put a price tag on the oxygen we breathe or the silence we need. Protect the wild.

Rooting tree seed production in local knowledge boosts forest restoration outcomes (commentary)
Since the launch of global restoration initiatives such as the U.N. Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), large-scale tree planting has become the hallmark of many restoration projects.…

If you've had a salad this winter, chances are it was thanks to the farmworkers who wake up at 2 a.m. to pick lettuce by hand in Yuma. This morning, I met these workers and joined them in the fields to hear directly from those men and women who work hard to feed their families and ours.

Fact: A single mature tree can absorb ~48 lbs of CO₂/year. Multiply by millions = powerful climate defense. Stop chopping, start planting—our shield against chaos grows back with trees! 🌱🌳 #Reforest #SaveNature

The first bald cypress tree seedling has emerged. Bald cypress trees are the wide-based, spanish moss-covered pines seen growning out of water in the south. This seedling is a 2nd generation tree from much farther north in New Jersey. Even today's Florida freeze won't kill this rugged tree.

The bald cypress tree's extensive root systems and adaptability make them excellent for wetland restoration. They also help improve water quality by filtering pollutants and stabilizing soil.
