Yes, I would like to purchase the rights to turn this saga into a tv series: Script for 3rd episode will be about how exactly #Wsocial owners managed to convince a handful of EU officials to ‘support them in building a trusted platform’ - on a completely incoherent concept of ‘trust’… 🙈

‘for now, at least’ You seem to anticipate that this may age like Milk. — IMO Elon never offered a coherent concept: According to his own words, he wants to enforce a ‘link-in-bio’/shadowban treatment for all serious competitors. Works like a charm in 🇨🇳 (which he uses as an example)

Isn’t this global? Here in Austria, the comms director of ex-chancellor Kurz wrote a book ex post on: How to stay in power by being able to push aside important topics by flooding the zone with what he calls: ‘strategically necessary nonsense’ Let’s all read Herman Chomsky Propaganda Model again

Congrats! Makes my current ap-at advocacy work a lot more fun 😎 IMO, it would help if the rationale for choosing Switzerland is shared in some detail (people seem to be discussing weirdest sounding theories about it). And, can I do a PR for typos I’ve found on web.plc.directory somewhere?

Changing your phone provider = changing your atmosphere provider → keep your phone number = keep your identity (username) Changing your phone = changing what app you use* → keep your contacts & photos = keep your followers, following, posts, etc. You can change providers without changing phones.

‘PLC can do whatever it damn well pleases’ Wouldn’t such a change of method fundamentally break self authentication? In other words: how can one update a did:plc doc without access to keys?

„Mensch muss durch strenge Herrschaft in Schach gehalten werden, weil Mensch Todestrieb hat“ Freuds eindeutig pseudowissenschaftliche Dualtrieb-Theorie wird seit mehr als 4 Generationen zitiert um den eigenen Kulturpessimismus zu legitimieren. Just today I was thinking of my fav fish meme (as one does 😅) and I realized that "organize" has roots in the word "organ", eg organize literally means "To furnish [a body] with organs", "to endow with capacity for the functions of life" en.wiktionary.org/wiki/organize

Glad you raised this. I shared the post since the overall message was still one of social-web solidarity, but I do think it’s incumbent on @malteengeler.de & colleagues to update their priors on atproto, which is far more mission-aligned with the Structural Integrity agenda than it gets credit for.

Slightly provocative take: The atproto ecosystem needs a constant (but not overwhelming) influx of ‘bad faith projects’ to demonstrate what ‘credible exit’ actually means. Without them the whole project would not make sense. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’ve met key people involved in W and they haven’t convinced me *at all*. But I would guess most people currently hosted on W pds have no clue what’s going on. I guess I’m not a big fan of the defederation debate, which may be the reason when I spend more time in atproto based UIs.

‘theories of change don’t necessarily need to be more coherent than any given poem’ Is that a position a person can take and still be considered an ‘honest leftie’? After years contemplating and discussing this inside and outside of academic circles, it still seems very impossible to me.

'Zuckerberg understood this from the start' So, I guess he probably also 'understands from the start' that mainstream adoption of open ID systems (like did:plc where this kind of capture becomes structurally impossible) WILL put an end to this seemingly natural monopoly.

Afaik worked very well for early adopting podcast creators (eg @tim.pritlove.org) I believe in atp contexts micro-donation/funding schemes are way easier to implement and way harder to shut down by platform operators. But key thing for me is still: remove the ‘is worth this price?’ cognitive load.

Paul Fuxjäger @cypherhippie.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
I loved it because it removed the cognitive load of a buying decision: “how much is this worth to me?” Instead: “do I want to support this creator?” If payment rails are in place, why not offer that monetization mode to creators who don’t like paywalls? For podcasters it worked wonders back then!
