Full of Dirt, Maybe Abandoned.
A photo looking down towards an asphalt surface. In the middle is a round metal cover, partially rusted, with the words "CLEAN OUT" across the middle and "Christy" in a stylized script that looks like it could be a trandemark. Somebody has painted around this metal object "FULL OF DIRT MAYBE ABANDONED". We can see partially faded white pavement markings nearby in mottled sunlight.

Does anyone know the story on these bike racks in downtown Nashville TN? I see what they're going for but does anyone actually like or use these?
A bike rack with an unusual design mounted in the sidewalk on an urban street. The rack is two vertical steel posts spaced very closely together about four feet tall, with a horizontal element attaching the top ends in a shape reminiscent of moustache style bicycle handlebars.Detail of the landscapeforms bicycle rack showing a use diagram. A traditional "road" style bike hangs from the horizontal moustache element from inside the front triangle where the top tube meets the seat tube. The front wheel is detached from the front fork and hangs ... somewhere? Apparently everybody carries a u lock with attached cable, because this diagram assumes both.

Here's another fun one: it's a ticketable offense if you splash a bystander when biking through a puddle.
Cartoon shows a helmeted spandex clad cyclist on a road bicycle riding through a puddle and splashing a nearby woman. Explanatory text in Japanese says this is illegal and can result in a 5000 yen (about US$30) fine.

I'm reading this Japanese cycling rules book. This page says liability insurance is required of cyclists in 34 of 47 prefectures! Yes, that adult in the cartoon is telling the child he's supposed to have bicycle insurance.
Cover of a small paperback book in Japanese. The title in Japanese says "Bicycle Traffic Rules Made Simple"An open part of the bicycle rules book with a cartoon of an adult woman explaining to a child on a bicycle that he is required to have insurance. The text in Japanese explains that 34 prefectures require liability insurance for cyclists, and another 10 "recommend" insurance, whatever that means. Although no prefectures currently impose no penalties for lack of compliance, some prefectures make an insurance purchase a mandatory part of buying the bicycle.

A yellow box of text describes a case of a child traveling at 20 km/hour who knocked an old woman down. He had to pay 90 million yen in compensation, which is about equivalent to half a million US dollars.

Your tap-to-pay card doesn't work on this rural railroad. Cash only.
A sign on board a commuter train has a rectangle with the letters "IC" with a large red X next to it. The "IC" rectangle represents the Japanese stored value card used to ride public transit, and the "X" represents "nope."

The text in Japanese under these symbols says:

IC cards like Suica cannot be used on Aoimori Railway and IGR Iwate Galaxy Railway.

If you access the train platform by tapping your IC card, you still need a ticket paid with cash, lest Masi Oka demands a ticket.

Seen at the Tokyo Station Koban (police box -- a mini police station). This sign tells people not to park in the blue bike lanes in Tokyo.
A video display showing a bicycle rider in a blue bike lane with Japanese writing on the lane marking it as a bicycle lane, and smaller text next to the rider that says, in Japanese, that the lane is for biking, not parking trucks. A large truck blocks the cyclist's path because it's stopped in the bike lane. Small text at the bottom of the display invites people to use the QR code for more information about where they can park there vehicles in the vicinity of Tokyo Station.
