I think I'm starting to come to terms with my feelings on the whole thing. I still fundamentally disagree on a lot of the takes I've seen surrounding the idea of rehabilitation and forgiveness, but I also feel somewhat ashamed of how defensive I felt in response to it all. It's not my business.

Also not to spoil anything but I love the ending for this movie. I’ve seen a lot of people dislike the whole last chunk, and I think it’s ironically because it does something the games can’t really do, but a movie excels at. Man this movie’s so fucking good I hope we get another one some time.

Since doing reviews on backloggd this year one of the biggest hurdles Ive had to get over as a critic is the idea that if a game is boring to you, you don't have to give it a 6 or a 7 out of courtesy just because momentum kept you going till the end. The more I think back on yesterday's direct the more I start to like it. For the first time in what feels like forever nintendo is actually starting to make an effort to support their core franchises. Star Fox, Metroid, and Pikmin finally getting semi-regular updates after so long is so nice.

I think what surprised me the most about mina is how dark the game can be tonally. The world is much meaner than shovel knight both in its setting and in gameplay; it can actually be genuinely disturbing and even a little scary at points Also the ending fucked me up. I mean I like it but... man...
