Emails @jongerhardson.bsky.social obtained show that for more than two years, Sheriff Nick Cocchi’s office routinely sent ICE agents the personal information of people held in its custody. It has discontinued the practice after the PROTECT Act took effect, but it's continuing a partnership with HSI:

Records: Hampden sheriff’s office regularly shared data with ICE
An attorney for the department said it has discontinued the practice after the PROTECT Act took effect last month, but that it will continue its partnership with Homeland Security Investigations.

Here's a column I wrote for last weekend's @berkshireeagle.com about the Connecticut Sun's "Sunset Season." It's about getting to the party late, but also what happens in a media/sports/entertainment world geared only for those who already have a lot www.berkshireeagle.com/sportscolumn...

I'm ready for the ultimate NYT higher-ed think piece: "I'm a College Professor. Thinking Isn't as Important as We Think."

I am tired of having to pretend that the value of studying my discipline solely rests on the "marketable skills" we teach. Sometimes things are just worth knowing and doing because they make your life bigger and richer.

Every journalist can imagine the out-of-body rapture the writer probably had when they learned that "clown school" detail. And every one should think about why. Probably helpful to reread Janet Malcolm every few years just to remain in passing acquaintance with our basic humanity

My journey with this story as gone from bemused recognition through regional pride to just plain queasiness. This story punches down, and puts a small community minding its own business on display for the amusement of people that don't know them or wish them well
