We had a fantastic society trip to the dig at Lowther. The dig this year is funded by Lowther Castle and Gardens Trust, but includes investigation of area around St Michael’s church following the CWAAS-funded geophysics there last year.

Due to the dry weather, visitors to Haweswater will be lucky enough to see the remaining walls and roads of the village. #history #mardale #lakedistrict #cumbria

What a delight Brougham castle is 😍 A fantastic visit - the favourite residence of Lady Ann Clifford. Amazing history and the remains of the Roman fort in the field next door. Have you visited any Cumbrian historical sites this weekend? Please tell us!

It’s a big beast that 1800 years ago left this paw print in a Roman imperial tile (IMP) found during excavation this week on the #Carlisle dig #archaeology #HadriansWall
