This unsourced viral video appears to show a group of male lions flopping into a pile together, a moment of bonding. We usually think of male lions as monarchs of all they survey, but COALITIONS of male lions are actually quite common. Let's learn about this surprising band of brothers.

Had time to slap some color on this little project today and strung it into a basic animatic. Song is I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Pretenders. I'll also include the color frames in the comments for those who like to follow at their own pace. #wilerunner #wileroad #roagrage

East Pacific Red Octopuses (Octopus rubescens) share their range with the Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) have a similar appearance, so they were originally thought to be young Giant Pacific Octopuses Even as paralarva, they look very similar, like a little metroid. #OCTOtober

A juvenile East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) only about 2.5 cm long sitting on something (Maybe a shell) and striking a pose. There is a black background and the octopus is a beautiful red and orange.

A tiny juvenile East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) sitting on a piece of wood sticking out of the sandy sea floor. There is green plant matter at the bottom of the wood. The octopus is less that 2 cm long. Its arms are below it, go out and then curl. The octopus has its papillae raised, giving it a bumpy texture. Its mantle goes to a rounded tip, and the mantle is resting behind its head on its arms. The octopus has a line shaped pup that it is tilted slightly down, giving it a determined appearance. The octopus is a beautiful ruby red, with some beigish red areas on top.

Three East Pacific Red Octopus paralarva (Octopus rubescens) piled up in the corner of a clear container. They are translucent with orange chromatophores on their mantle and arms and you can see organs inside the mantle. There is a ruler in the container and you can see the octopus are about 8 millimetres in length, although two are on a diagonal and so only appear to be 5 to 6 millimetres in length

A East Pacific Red Octopus (Octopus rubescens) sitting in a shallow plastic container that is held by a person. It looks like it was just collected while tide pooling. The octopus is sort of sitting up, so it has its head and half of its mantle out of the water, with its arms mostly in the water. It has two rows of suckers. The octopus is dark red, with some orange at the ends and undersides of its arms. The parts out of the water look shiny. The background is out of focus, but you can see water, rocks and pink/purple sea plants.

You've seen fireworks that look like jellyfish, but what about a jellyfish that looks like fireworks? The E/V Nautilus filmed this rare Halitrephes maasi jellyfish glowing like a firework at a depth of 4,019 feet (1,225 meters) off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. (📷: Ocean Exploration Trust)

Magical creatures don’t exist, eh? Roughly 400 million years ago, before the birth of trees, there were giant mystery cones called “Prototaxites,” which grew nearly 30 feet tall. We literally have no idea what they were. Plant: no Mushroom: no Animal: no Tell me this isn’t a little bit magic

What in the name of Beetlejuice ARE these things? They're zebra morphs of 'squat lobsters', likely in genus Allogalathea. They're not true lobsters & are more closely related to hermit crabs. Now which one is white with black stripes & which is black with white stripes? (📷: hoopderscotch)

🇨🇦🦀 CANADA DAY CRAB THREAD 🦀🇨🇦 Canada encompasses 3 of the world's oceans, so let's meet crabs from each one. In the Arctic, the spiky king crab friend Neolithodes grimaldii is found offshore (300-5000m depth). Same genus, different species, as the famous baby 1/7 🦑🧪

Stamp from Greenland with a drawing of a red spiky king crab in dorsal view. Kind of wild, it shows the reduced 4th pair of legs.

The Yeti crab is really a squat lobster so I’m sharing it this National Lobster Day! This is a handprinted lino block print of the Yeti crab (Kiwa hirsuta), a crustacean with silky blond setae (resembling fur, which reminded scientists of the Abomnible Snowman) found on the Pacific-Antarctic 🧪🐡🦞

A linocut print on a black vertical rectangle of kozo paper of a yeti crab from above with its two elongated and fury arms reaching upwards.

Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings... One of Grimalditeuthis bonplandi's tentacle clubs is like a little squid hand puppet. They will flap it around, and would-be predators will think they are getting a tasty squid snack, when they really are going to be a snack for a squid. #SQUIDtember

A Grimalditeuthis bonplandi swimming in ocean without its tentacle extended. The squid is translucent with orange tinge, and is covered in yellow chromatophores. It has two sets of fins which are both flapping. The upper fins have more chromatophores. You can see some of its organs due to its translucent flesh.

A Grimalditeuthis bonplandi floating in the ocean with its "squid puppet" tentacle extended. The orange, thin tentacle is hanging straight down so you can't see the flappy bit at the end. The squid is translucent and covered in plenty of yellow chromatophores. You can see some of its organs due to its translucent flesh. It has two sets of fins. The upper fins have more chromatophores, while the lower ones have less so its more translucent.

A close up of Grimalditeuthis bonplandi swimming in ocean, focused on its "squid puppet" tentacle. The tentacle is thin and orange, with a flappy bit for a tentacle club. This flappy bit is meant to mimic a squid. The squid is a translucent with a yellow tentacle and yellow secondary fin.

A Grimalditeuthis bonplandi swimming downward. Its tentacle is not extended, and its arms are all together. It is slightly translucent, and is a slightly purple colour with its mantle being more white. There is a red line on its head going across and through its eye.

𝘈𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘴 sp. belongs to the family Ichneumonidae, commonly called Darwin wasps. Wasps in this family are parasitoids — their larvae develop by feeding on or inside other insect bodies. The genus has been reclassified taxonomically, reflecting the need for more research to understand them.
