An screenshot of CrossPaint's Help Menu in the Mesen emulator, displaying an example text string in English.

To the right is Mesen's Tile Viewer, where the bottom 256 CHR tiles are all reserved for the textbox area. Both Japanese hiragana + katakana sets and a limited set of kanji are supported, alongside English characters and punctuation.

I've *only* ever used LibreOffice after ditching Windows. Their refusal to use AI is a nice cherry on top :D

CutterCross @cuttercross.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
I could absolutely see the scenario of people dismissing your project [and by association, you] at the mere sight of an agents file without looking further and seeing that it's an anti-AI statement. But we of course know it's the latter :)

CutterCross @cuttercross.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
Supporting both Japanese kana sets [+ kanji] is even worse D: Ironically I put a lot more effort into supporting Japanese characters than English. [Benefit of screen-wide text boxes: Prime CHR bankswitch opportunity!]

I hate that I can't trust ANY new 3D / raycaster NES project that pops up. Whenever I look deeper, it's always tainted by Claude AI. Every. Single. Time.

I've seen a couple previous TASes of this, but it's cool to see people improving it! If only NESmaker didn't have such janky platformer landing physics back then, this game might have been palatable to more RTA runners too. 😅Oh well.

S-Video on a CRT is such a fantastic middle-ground. I'm honestly pretty tired of gamers pushing RGB as the ultimate way to enjoy retro games. Especially invasive RGB mods to systems that never supported RGB. Composite video on a CRT is still valid too :)

Check out this new NES flashcart: www.kickstarter.com/projects/701... It's a lot cheaper than EverDrive N8 Pro, while having some cool enticing features of its own, so it should make it more affordable for more people to play digital releases of NES homebrew games on real consoles.

True ownership of digital media is the ability to back up data from one physical vessel to another, in perpetuity. Physical releases are great, but they don't last forever. If the official distributors of digital media take away ownership rights from their consumers, they will find their own way.

Have you ever seen an NES game render 200+ colors on screen? I'm SLOWLY working on the rest of CrossPaint's 16 sample images. This one shows all color emphasis combos + monochrome mode on sprites and BG. Color emphasis on every line is pretty cool :) #NESdev #NEShomebrew #gamedev #indiedev #8bit
A screenshot of CrossPaint, displaying an image that renders 200 colors on the canvas [excluding the UI], by using every combination of the NES PPU's color emphasis bits + monochrome bit on the background and sprites.

Have you ever fought to make something fit in a PRG bank where it leaves you with literally 0 bytes free? Having a chunk of data overflow by only 5 bytes can motivate you to pull off the most desperate byte-optimizations to make it fit. #NESdev #NEShomebrew #gamedev #indiedev

Secret of Evermore is such a beautiful game. I've never seen a SNES game with such unrivaled atmosphere. I bounced off the early game pretty hard, [jank hitboxes didn't help], but once I understood the charge system, I was HOOKED.
