A large interior space in Minecraft, viewed from the second floor of a gallery. The walls are of a purplish stone, with orangish stone structural elements. The floor is a light gray stone and the ceiling a dark gray stone. Overhead is a large dome. To the left is a chapel area with Byzantine wall decor. On the side wall opposite are some niches with items displayed on the wall, and above that is another gallery, with an arched roof.

Can you imagine a house that was built to make it hard to move from room to room? Not for any reason of security but because you could collect a little fee from people for going through doors? The antagonism in some software design disgusts me. All of the barriers to just getting things done.

16,000 tonnes of methane pollution dumped from Chevron's Gorgon plant in Australia is about ~448,000 TCO2-e.
Around the same as the emissions savings from not driving
~100,000 combustion engine cars for a year: all undone by a single facility's propensity for dumping waste into the air you're breathing as you read this.
0.448 mtc02-e is also one third of the total CO2 injected by Gorgon's CCS facility in FY25.

Forbes describes how Trump used an environmental easements on Trump National Golf Club in Florida to dodge $825 million in taxes, "give or take a couple hundred million." This is how Todd Blanche is helping Trump cheat on his taxes. www.forbes.com/sites/danale...

How much did such legerdemain save the president? Spokespeople for the White House and the Trump Organization ignored that question and others. It’s difficult to put a number on it. But after studying similar deals from the past and speaking with eight industry experts, Forbes believes the president could end up writing off something like $825 million, give or take a couple hundred million. The expected tax savings prompted us to increase our estimate of Trump’s fortune by $300 million.

In times past, the Internal Revenue Service has challenged both parts of this sort of deal, known as a conservation easement: that golf courses, hardly known for their environmental friendliness, qualify as nature preserves, and that surrendered development rights are worth what owners say. Donald Trump knows these arguments well. He has battled the IRS on both.

Now he has something no ordinary taxpayer can claim: power over the government on the other side of the table. The Trump Organization donated the easement in December 2025. A month later, Trump sued the IRS, alleging that the agency failed to protect his tax information during his first term in office. He was both plaintiff and president, suing an agency inside the government he ran. The president brushed aside the obvious conflict of interest. “Anything I win, I’m giving 100% to charity,” he said.

Then came the payoff. In May, one month after the April 15 tax deadline passed, the Justice Department released the settlement of Trump’s IRS lawsuit. The agreement barred the government from pursuing any claims against Trump, his family and their business arising from matters already pending, or that could be pending.

Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress the agreement does not cover the president’s 2025 tax returns, but a careful reading of the “could be pending” language suggests the opposite. That opens the possibility that Trump, who appears to have gotten an extension on his 2025 taxes, could have pursued the most a…

JPDATE, OCT. 17, 3:29 PM ET
The No Kings Instagram account has been reactivated, but administrators have not yet regained
We now know that Meta pulled down the account. For approximately 90 minutes, Meta did not
respond to our team, even as the account was offline at the peak of our national day of action and
livestream. The account is now viewable again, and Meta told us in their response email that they
made a bad call.
However, administrators are still unable to access the account, blocking our ability to post about
an ongoing day of mass action for early voting. Meta is currently not allowing the team to log in
using the No Kings email address originally associated with the account. The team is
troubleshooting that issue now.
This is not OK.
This is part of a much bigger concern: activists and movements around the world are increasingly
vulnerable to decisions made by powerful technology platforms that can determine who gets
heard and who gets silenced.
‘We will close the loop once our team is fully back in the account. This remains a developing
situation. ALT
