Enjoyed Camp Miasma a lot, and think it’ll probably grow on me even more next time I see it (something I suspect doesn’t apply to I Saw the TV Glow). Wrankled by the style of humour though - ironic and self-satisfied - in way that feels distinctly LA to me. Please no more.

The land is barren now. Still golden light pours down on the rocky hills that characterise the humpbacked, broken landscape. The needle-furred forest floors that the druids walked are bared beneath the sun. There was a day, not so long ago, when one could walk amongst the trees, amongst the oak and alder, and not emerge for an age. In the shadows of the great pines came the glint of eyes, the shining of teeth. How they danced; in the green glens, amongst the emerald moss, beneath the cascades of slate-grey sweet water, in the lurking depths of the lochs. The dark earth remembers. The rock remembers. The infant trees, the grinning mountains. Before the iron fist of progress choked it from the land with stinging smoke; here there was magic.

Who is the King of the forest? He is bred in the shadow of dense fir. Shaped by the coarse rock and sweeping valleys that make waves in the sea of trees. He comes down from his mountain throne to bless the living with fang and claw. To baptise in blood. See the lustre of his virgin-snow fur as he moves in the towering wood, swift as sunlight on a whispering stream. The jewels of his eyes and the ivory of his teeth. He wears the crown of the moon and sings a dirge to the dawn. His voice is Death to them.
