I write words and code, wave swords around, and try to vacuum the cat. Back in 🇸🇪 after 20 odd years in 🇬🇧

I taught myself PageMaker 6.5 and produced three books, one of which had Pratchettian amounts of footnotes, sometimes nested. I refuse to go through that learning curve again.

I usually bought baby wipes for camping trips. I liked the aloe vera variety.

This was at the Point Shop at Wheeler Street, for a gluten-free ruby ale. It was very nice, but not that nice

Ten years ago, I was at a meeting of reenactment combat trainers (many manly men!) when one made a really inappropriate comment. I rolled my eyes, but another man said "That's a bit rapey, mate" and then changed the subject. It was as easy as that. And as hard as that. I try to follow his lead.

I had a cheap no-name action camera mounted on top of a bike helmet for sword fighting practice. It didn't work, due to too much bobbing and dodging, but would that be feasible for you?

If you could lift your arms, someone would invent surf fencing. (Someone sent me a video of people fencing with Gemma HEMA swords while on roller skates.)

I was in Madrid for work two weeks ago, and outdoor temperatures were well over 30°C. Quite horrible. Hopefully November should be more agreeable. (I'm being sent there again then, for more meetings, but won't have time to sneak off to cons, alas.)

Pratchett defined the difference between erotic and kinky as using a feather or the whole chicken. I hesitate to ponder what a whole peacock would entail.

No, not unless some newspaper has been sitting on a bunch of time-out-worthy scandals until after the election. I don't think it will happen, but I think it would be amusing if it did.

Would be amusing of SD's breaking of the not-a-formal-rule of standing an MP aside when the other side had one away comes back to bite them.

Have you tried the tea spoon trick? Make a cuppa, stir it with a steel spoon, leave it in to get it not quite scalding, take it out and press the convex side of the bowl against the bite. The heat breaks down some of the enzymes causing the itching. (Other spoon heating methods available.)

Sorry, I only saw it then. They rebooted the anime a couple of times when they rebooted the game, but at least the first iteration was surprisingly decent for what it was.

Tangent: I enjoyed the Cardfight! Vanguard card game, and since the anime was created to promote it, it showed the mechanics correctly. I used to go with my son to a game store in another town and play every other Saturday. Also, did you mean Fall 2026?

Son-in-law did the same on his Lenovo laptop with Mint rather than Ubuntu. And he's using it to play games with a PS4 controller.

I mean, there's not much to say. Last winter I went to Ubuntu's website, got an install image, put it on an usb flash drive, plugged it into a dell laptop and chose install with default options. Soon after it was done and everything - including WiFi, sound, video, and Bluetooth - just worked.

If I was cynical I would expect AI companies to continue to "accidentally hack third parties without being instructed to" until they are nationalised. That's the only way they could get off the tiger they're riding.

Indeed. *waves from Sweden* I try to see glasses as half-full, though. Takes a bit more effort, since it doesn't come naturally to me, but I've found it makes my day-to-day life happier.

After the Incident these are no longer open to the public. A replica have been carved into the chalk of Royston Cave in Hertfordshire, which should be far enough away to be safe.

I'm playing this JRPG which takes place in both the distant past and the present, and one party member just went "Welp, I really like this girl we've helped here in the past and I feel I can make a real difference, so I'm staying here with her" and I went there in the present and found their grave.

We've been watching Taskmaster on USAnian YouTube, and they have a lot of strange medicine ads. The most American one though was one that offered to make it easy for you to get a concealed weapon carry permit for your state, and convert it to a national one.

I might be physically tired, but I still had mental energy in the evenings. Coding is the opposite, leaving me mentally rather than physically tired. You'd think keen AI users wouldn't get mentally tired, but the ones I see appear to be more dulled, as if they had less energy to begin with. 2/2

When I was a student, I worked as a hospital cleaner in the summers. It was quite active work, physically, but not something that taxed me intellectually. I used to joke that I came in, got changed, put my clothes and brain in the locker, did a day's work, and changed back, brain still fresh. 1/2

It's a classic, though I only have four or five albums. (In a box in the basement with a lot of other French/Belgian comic albums, like Spirou, Gaston, Yakari, Johan and Peewit, Blueberry, and Buddy Longway. They got boxed away before I moved to England in '99 and sat in a barn until a year ago.)
