Here’s the monthly data with a 12-month trailing average, so we don’t “look ahead” of the time series. We can see that visits from Canada are substantially down. Like, a *lot*. And if we looked at the French series by itself we’d see something too. But it’s not on the scale of Covid. Yet.
Smoothed monthly graph shows Canada has dropped in visits substantially, but not to the extent we saw in Covid

I went and got the data. Here’s the raw series, which is noisy because tourism is highly seasonal. The catastrophic effect of Covid is obvious, followed by a recovery to lower levels. There’s also evidence of a substantial Trump effect from Canada. We can apply a more sensible smoother to see.
Noisy monthly data, massive Covid drop, recovery (to lower levels). There’s also evidence of a Trump effect in some countries

I do think that of all the things, this refinery fire probably is by far the most easy to resolve and probably not a big deal as a result. even the hit on the saudi pipeline a few weeks ago was repairable and back up in relatively short order.

I work doing public health policy so I actually know beyond random articles what's going on. yes toxic waste dumps are bad (though this article notes it's being used to find new drugs which counters your point) but the biggest concern is farms because that's best for super bugs to breed.

The conditions at an abandoned steel mill is significantly different than that at a data center and i will say neither are likely to be the source of the next disease. That award would go to farms.

TBF one of the sorta bizzare trends in the US (cant speak for anywhere else on this) is the proliferation of bespoke manufacturing where it is just some dude in his garage with like tormachs (or if hes a retired googler a dmg mori) doing contract work for short run products.

Schumer literally has been introducing bills to cut tariffs and also the main thrust of the opposition is that the ones trump has done are literally illegal, which is dealt with by the judiciary and not congress.
