The American public:
Webcomicname “Different” by Alex Norris.
The pink blobby person says “I want things to be different” in a room with some furnishings.
Second panel shows the person wildly smashing vases and stuff with a baseball bat.
Final panel - the person is surrounded by a mess of destruction and says “oh no”

I wrote about DOGE's planned SSA "modernization" for MSNBC. "It’s like cooking a Thanksgiving turkey in 20 minutes by putting it in a blast furnace, or choosing to get measles instead of getting vaccinated against it: it sounds most convincing to the layperson who asks the fewest questions."

Opinion | DOGE’s new plan to overhaul the Social Security Administration is doomed to fail
Modernizing the SSA’s technical infrastructure is not a novel idea – and such modernizations have a poor track record.

Meanwhile, Trump has irrevocably destroyed our strongest alliances and driven our closest friends away from the United States. I'm just two months! This isn't making America great. It's making America weaker, isolated, less secure. It's the antics of a schoolyard bully, not a great leader.

Israeli defense minister says IDF is now pushing into new parts of Gaza not just for expedient military purposes (ostensible reason for 1km buffer zone and Philadelphi and Netzarim Corridors), but areas it will “permanent[ly] hold” and that will be “added to Israel”

Tonight my mind is on the shattering of the rule of law in the United States. Last week and again this week Trump issued official Executive Orders targeting two large private law firms - one from Seattle (Perkins Coie) and a DC firm Paul, Weiss. /1 www.nytimes.com/2025/03/20/u...

Frank is a 48-year employee. he is 67 years old and has ridden his bike to work, a 2-hour commute, every work day, for the last 2 years. he's working with our comms team to journal some of his rides this year for our employee newsletter. and this entry? this entry is something else.
Entry 2: March 5, 2025

On my way to work this morning, about 5 a.m., I paused on the bridge over Lake Abram in Berea, for a few moments of introspection. On this date in 1981, a colleague named Dave Kelly and I were swept down a 16-foot sewer under Train Avenue and went for a quarter-mile gray water rafting trip, without the raft. We were rescued, somewhat the worse for wear, by our coworkers Rich Connelly and Mark Kerr.

In the WQIS enforcement group, we’re currently shorthanded, and I’ve been pushing myself pretty hard. As I stood on the bridge this morning, in the dark and silence, I recalled the times in my life when I’ve felt hard pressed and near the end of my rope. Through perseverance—and the support of people like Rich and Mark—I have always pulled through.

Cycling teaches me daily that if I just keep going, I will reach my destination, one turn of the crank at a time. And it brings to mind a few lines from the song Amazing Grace, altered slightly, that I often recite to myself as I ride: “Through many troubles, toils, and snares, I have already come; providence has seen me safe thus far, and providence will see me home.”

This is a program for teenagers with serious disabilities who are finishing high school and transitioning to their next steps in life. Trump just axed it, effective immediately, in the middle of the night, with no notice.

i don't know these men. but on Nov 3, 1919, they paused for a photograph while pouring concrete that would become part of our Westerly plant. hands like theirs built a system that has endured generations. and hands like theirs are adding to that system today. unknown does not mean unappreciated.
a lakefront construction site in 1919. three men stand centered, posed for the photograph in front of a wooden concrete form, wearing work attire of the era: brimmed hats, collared shirts, overalls and outerwear. the ground is muddy and cluttered with wood and debris from construction. in the background, is a pavilion, two old Oldsmobile billboards, and what looks like an Oldsmobile beyond the construction.
