"History is an agreed upon set of stories we tell ourselves." "And what about the ones that say you're our best hope?" "You better hope those are just straight up lies." - Vance Turbo, Hero of Spaaace

To show the bullshit nature of media criticism (which I have my Masters in--and you can mock me for), I thought it was a clever satire of the Iraq War lies about WMDs. It was actually written by a 9/11 "truther" who believes the US government was behind said attack. #StarTrek #StarTrekIntoDarkness

My introduction to the Cthulhu Mythos was the wild and wacky Titus Crow novels by Brian Lumley (Necroscope). Which start as pulpy adventures and then go to wild Doctor Who-esque sci-fi with their very own TARDIS. It may explain why Cthulhu Armageddon is so action packed. #horror #books #cthulhu

Listening to GOTREK AND FELIX: ROAD OF SKULLS by @jmreynolds.bsky.social. It's a really good story so far about a dwarven fortress under siege. It doesn't fit anywhere in the timeline but that (air)ship has sailed. Besides, there were like 20 years of offscreen adventures. #WarhammerFantasy #books

For the #HorrorWritersChat I'm CT Phipps and I two very different horror series. In the United States of Monsters, which is #horror comedy, I rely a lot on 80s music like "The Man Behind the Mask" by Alice Cooper and the Ramones "Pet Semetary". Cthulhu Armageddon is haunting Wild West theme.

I love metatextual discussions of slasher films like CAMP MIASMA. It's not the first to do so like, well, Scream but also Hack/Slash by Tim Seeley and lesser known offerings like Final Girls. I wrote PSYCHO KILLERS IN LOVE with the same attitude: a slasher who joins a Final Girl hunting misogynists.

There's a new video game (2027) called WARLOCK that is going to be set in Ravenloft. I think the protagonist looks very much like D&D Midnight. Tricia Helfer is the VA, which is silly since ever a girl needed to be voiced by Claudia Black, it's this one. #DND #Warlock #videogames

A recommendation for non-DNW's here. I really enjoyed THIS IS MY BLOOD as one of the best religious themed vampire books of all time. Like Anne Rice's early work in the Vampire Chronicles, the anger mixes well with the sublime.

We also had to change the narrator for THE TREE OF AZATHOTH from Jeffery Kafer with Cary Hite, which I justified in-story as John being significantly older and changed by his exposure to eldritch forces. I consider it a Doctor Who recasting. :D

031

CTPhipps @ctphipps.bsky.social · 23/08/2026

THE TREE OF AZATHOTH is a somewhat controversial book of mine because it took the protagonists away from the post-apocalypse wasteland of Cthulhu Armageddon and inserted them in a noir-esque city in the Dreamlands. However, I had fun with the protagonists reacting to a 'normal' society in confusion.
