When I saw the SIMPSONS episode with/John Waters that was exactly my experience: I had a hilarious & awesome Gay Uncle who loved showing me Horror movies & Anime. He was the first dude to explain MAD MAX movies to me! I spent the night at his house & we'd watch Horror movies! He was awesome.
