@drwendyrocks.bsky.social Hypothetical question aboot a hypothetical Cascadia full rip. Would there be much land rebound? If my understanding is accurate, the cascadia fault is a strike-slip, not subduction, so there shouldn't be much if any land rebound. Am I understanding it correctly?

Took a roadtrip down the Oregon coast yesterday. Got to point out some of the interesting geography for my nephew. (He just graduated HS, and is from Atlanta. Oregon is pretty novel for him.) I am reminded, once again, how fun it would be to take such a trip with a geologist...

Air show over my place today. My cats, adopted in Feb, were terrified. Mercury hid whenever it got noisy. Boo claimed my lap as sanctuary. So I've had That Which Stares Back From the Abyss claw-welded to me for 9 hours now. I am just happy I could comfort him when the jets thundered.

These are my chaos gremlins, Boötes: That which Stares back from the Abyss, and Mercury (Who is often in retrograde.) I adopted their furry behinds on Saturday. They're 2 year old rescues who were listed as "Problem adoptions" Only problem I've had with them is their gremlinish nature.

Boo is named after the Boötes Void, the largest known cosmological void. Mercury is named after his Zoomies and endless desire to catherd the souls of the dead to Tartarus. He's a good little psychopomp.

NGL, this year largely sucked for me. Fridge and hot water went out in Feb, and that took me over a month and a half to resolve. Everyone on the Girl Scout trip I lead to Alaska got the flu. Most of the people I went to Scotland with got covid. Ignorance and pettiness reigned on election day...

On my way back from the Portland regional gem and mineral show I spotted a dude pulled over with a flat tire aboot a block from my place. Got to test my new stubby impactor on some seriously over-tightened nuts, and it worked well. Got his donut on and he's on his way. I enjoy helping folks.
