Meet the 1591 cat man. I am counting 7 cats on and near him. #catcontent
A detail from a 1591 German pamphlet about "Ketzerei", heresy. You see a man standing, carrying 7 cats. This detail is part of a title page: https://www.digitale-sammlungen.de/de/details/bsb00086437

Where can I look at searchable digitised French-language incunabula/early prints? Currently using Gallica but finding the OCR a bit unreliable. #bookhistory #medievalsky any pointers appreciated.

The arms are described as Symons impaling Miles, which is what I suspected (though not in those exact words given my poor grasp of heraldic terminology!).

William Hales Symons married Milly Miles on 23 Dec 1809 at Clifton St Andrew; witnesses were Philip Miles and Eliza Miles. I suspect she was "Sarah Milly Daughter of Philip & Elizabeth Miles (born 24 Decemr. 1784)" baptised 4 March 1785 at Clifton St Andrew.

Milly may of course be Emily or Mildred etc, and it's already difficult with just a name in the first place... maybe people interested in #heraldry can find out more?

I'm sorry to have only just discovered @crowdsourceherbook.bsky.social, so this is a bit late to the party, but here's one of my books previously owned by a woman - in this case Milly Symons, about whom I can find almost nothing, except another of her books for sale on ebay in the US. #bookhistory

@crowdsourceherbook.bsky.social So just stumbled upon your project. I have an 1882 edition of Leaves of Grass that appears to have belonged to Isabella O. Ford. Been trying to figure out if this really should be part of a collection and not just sitting on my shelf away from the kids.
Very worn cover of Leaves of Grass by Walt WhitmanInscription reads Isabella O. Ford 23rd October 1882Title page: Leaves of Grass, Rees Welsh & Co, 1882

Very cool, thanks for pointing it out! *this* Isabella O. Ford? It's definitely worth tracking down an example of her signature to compare it. As for giving it to a collection - libraries tend to be quite selective when accepting (relatively) recent books, but who knows!
