"Facism is the act of self-deception in service of making your own life more painful, solely for the payoff of making life more painful for people you dislike."

User dratsab huffman asks the question:

To amuse myself i researched revacholian nationalism as well as measure head's race theories etc etc and focused my character on "traditionalism".

Anyway, ive noticed that if i ever click dialogue options that are in tune with my character's political compass, i lose morale. Whats the point of having this as a mechanic if its going to be so detrimental and feels like the character doesnt believe he actually is this or something... is there anyway to overcome that kind of morale loss?

Recalcitrant Jester replies:
Being a fascist is a deeply demoralizing experience. You have to not only radically alter your worldview to make reality fit into your unhinged schema, but that worldview is predicated on the notion that the weakest, most unworthy degenerate worms on the planet are somehow overpowering and humiliating you on a moment-by-moment basis.

In mechanical terms too, the lowered morale also reduces your volition score—the more you indulge in your delusions, the less you are able to exercise self-control and self-awareness.

The point of fascism being mechanically detrimental—the ludonarrative theme—is that fascism is an unequivocally self-destructive ideology, the practice of which only serves to nurture that self-destructive urge and turn it outward. It's not like Dark Side points in KotOR where you can access cool new abilities and get to enjoy being such a nasty lil rascal; you are not supposed to enjoy being a fascist in Disco Elysium. Fascism is the act of self-deception in service of making your own life more painful, solely for the payoff of making life more painful for people you dislike.

I've been drawing a lot of fairies lately with my friend @crowbobot.bsky.social ! Here are some of them! King Soma belongs to Zero! more on everyone can be found on my toyhouse; toyhou.se/RaylalaHearts

A cute little spider girl named Glass, holding her pet spider, Hour. Glass has 4 arms and a black and red outfit. She has a big smile with two large fangs sticking out. There is a color palette beside her.
Image has the following character information:

Glass and Hour - She/Her
- Glass is a black widow!
- She has a pet spider she named Hour to match her own name (Hourglass)
- Glass has time manipulation magic!
- Glass enjoys sewing and weaving in her free time!
- Hour is also she/her!
- Glass has to reassure other fairies that she will not eat them, even though they look very scrumptious. This does not help for some reason?

A pretty snail girl holding a green umbrella. She's wearing a pink dress and has a large pink shell on top of her head. She has no face. Beside her is a second version of her face with heavy makeup in shades of pink. There is a color palette beside her.

The information on the image:
Serenity the SnailFairy
- Wears makeup in public to make others feel more comfortable but actually hates it.
- Wealthy young lady, enjoys long glides.
- A bit shy, but very kind!
- She/her
- Snairy (Snail Fairy)

A moth fairy. The fairy has vitiligo and is dressed in brown and blue clothing. Xe is holding a cane with a purple gem at the top, and a second version of the cane shows a sword inside. There is a color palette beside xir. There is also a full wing reference beside xir.

Information on the page is as follows;

Vera the Moth - Xe/Xir
- Xir wings are transparent for this reference. They are opaque like a regular moths' wings.
- Vera is a fortune teller who makes xir living from tricking people into buying a bunch of fortunes.
- Xe offers the first fortune for free, but the rest at a steep price.
- Xe has gotten into a few scrapes from this line of work, so xe always have a sword on xir.
- Xe is based off a polyphemus moth!
- Vera lives in the Dire Marshes.
